I've used that P500 sight tool on all my guns and it has worked great. I was just thinking about using it on my XD45s. The trick I always found was to line it up just right and push on the base of the sight as opposed to the blade. I do recall my last XDs being a real mutha to change with a Meprolight sight tool. What seemed to make the XDs so hard to change was that they tend to rock in the clamp due to the tiered shape of the slide. In the past, I used a clamp from top to bottom too to help it not to rock or twist when pushing the sights. Apparantly, the previous ordeal didn't scar me too bad as I think I'm ready to give it a go again!

Guys, I ve just had my TFO's installed today at alocal gunsmith. I bought it there at $100 and they charged $15 for the install. I was hesitant because of all the bad experiences people had. But it took only 5 min to change 'em. And the sights are big help on my shooting.

Looks like MGW has recently come out with a sight tool for the XDs. I'll be getting one of those!

I also have the 'universal' sight pusher from Midway. Thing works GREAT on my 1911's, but is absolutely NO help on an XD. I spend a good 5 hours working to remove my XD45 sights. They didn't move a mm. I was gonna have some trigger work by Springer done, so I asked him to remove the sights for me.

I did what somebody else had posted about using a dremel tool .I took my time and used the cutting wheel to cut the front sight. Once cut I used a brass punch and gunsmiths hammer. Took me about 30 minutes to remove the stock sights and install the new Meprolights. LIke evrybody else says the rear sight drift out fairly easy.

My local gunsmith rocks! He was able to change the sights on both my XD-45's without a problem. I am sitting here right now looking at both sets of factory sights he removed. They look brand new.

I wonder if some people are having trouble getting the sights out because of the direction they are trying to Push them.

I went to take my sights off today and messed with the front sight for about 10 min i was using a punch to try to knock it in one direction and it wouldn't come off so i took the slide and looked at the sight channel under a magnifying glass and i could see marks where the sights were installed so i turned the slide around and knocked the sight in the opposite direction which is where i could see the marks and it only took two hits and the sight came right out. The rear sights took about 4 hits in the same direction and they came right out as well.

So it might help to see if you can tell which way they went in and knock them back out in that direction.

Which way did you hit them? Left to right or right to left?
