I gave in
Bought a set for my wife...I'd been wanting a set for a while, but recently switched to carrying an HK USPc, so I couldn't get a set for that.
I'll be putting them on her XD9SC in about 2 weeks...any tips other than "soak the slide in lube", "leave the slide in the freezer", and "Left to Right"?

Yeah............ gunsmith.
Given the large number of knowledgable folks who have attempted the DIY route and had, ahem, less than optimal results accompanied by new and interesting combinations of cuss words I think the $25 to have a 'smith do it is money well spent.

Yea, but I've also heard many smiths having trouble with XDs also. I even remember a recent thread that said something about a broken tool! F you do it yourself, I do know that they only come out one way (only to the left, or only to the right), but I don't remember which.
Good luck.

I emailed Springfield to ask about the left-right or right-left thing. Haven't gotten a response yet.
The more I think about it, I've got the tools and the necessary mechanical experience...and if I've got the cojones to do a grip chop, I should be able to screw up my courage and do this.
