Howdy everybody!
Just got my Suresights installed yesterday on the XD9SC and immediately shot 150 rds with 'em. I'm not sure I'm in love with them yet or not, but they definitely shoot! Much to my suprise I had 1 flyer outside the 6" bullseye at 15 yards (unfortunately the farthest it'll go on the indoor range) out of 100 rounds. The group excluding flyer was actually 5", high and right. One big ragged beautiful hole. I say I was suprised because (1) I shot well with the stock 3-dots straight out of the box (I've put 900 rds through it since I got it in September), no problems pulling to the R or L, and the gunsmith I went to didn't get the front sight centered. It's obviously not in the middle of the slide. I'll explain that later. (2) I wasn't sure whether I trusted these sights to work well on the subcompacts. I'm don't know why, but It seems to me that the whole triangle sight picture thing would have to work at least a little bit differently on a 3" barrel than on a 4 or 5". Anyways, quality seems excellent and the sight picture definitely works. Those rounds just kept getting sucked into that bullseye like a damned black hole, I couldn't figure out why I wasn't seeing any rounds! (that range is kind of dark. Outdoor range was closed because of the ice storm). The reasons I'm not 100% on them yet is that they're just such crazy-ass sights and I'm still getting used to the way they look, and also I will be carrying as soon as I get my license at the end of this semester and I'm not sure whether they have affected the natural point of the XD. They seem to be higher sights, and this gun points more naturally for me than anything I've ever held with the old sights, so I just want to make sure these haven't changed that. Testing is still underway I will figure out how to post pictures today (tips on quickest technique welcomed!). I greatly regret that I didn't have the camera at the range yesterday -Rob in Aggieland, TX Last edited by SAtownXD; 01-18-2007 at 07:31 AM. |

Any Idea why you were hitting high and right? Do you think it was the sights not being centered? I have been considering getting a set for the XD 9mm SC. To post pics you need an account like at www.imageshack.us. Upload the image imageshack or photobucket. Copy the URL from imageshack, then when you post click on the photo icon and paste the URL. The image should apear in your message.

Like I said, the guy I took it to didn't get the front sight centered:
![]() , but he did smush up the side of the sight a little, as you can see. Now the guy wasn't there when I picked up the gun yesterday, so I couldn't ask him about them. He also damaged the rear sight slightly: the right edge of the yellow coating is a little chipped and roughed up. It does not significantly affect the sight picture (not now at least), but it is definitely damaged. I haven't raised a stink about this yet and and I'm not sure how upset I am about it. My reasons are that (1) the instructions say that due to the unusual shape a sight pusher tool cannot be used. I made sure to include the instructions but I don't know how he got them on, he could have tried the pusher or maybe just improvised something. (2) I was in a hurry to get the sights on my gun and he did it overnight for me as a favor. I don't have any experience changing sights myself and the places I tried in San Antonio wanted to charge me an extra $50 or wait 2 weeks, they were so backed up on their work. This guy was backed up just as much but he said he'd make time. Charged $15 for installation. (3) This is also not the first time that this shop has taken care of me, my buddy and I have both brought in numerous small oddjob problems with different guns and were never charged. It's always, "No, don't worry about it man." So I needed it done, no one else would do it, and they are so unusual and completely different in their design that I'm not sure whether to blame him for slight damage because I don't know how hard they are to install. I would appreciate any advice, especially from you, Chaim. I touched up the rear sight with a tiny smear of white-out and a hi-lighter and it doesn't affect functionality, my concern is greater vulnerability to wear, long-term. The front sight, like I said, is not centered, but it looks to me like he got it that far and it stuck and wouldn't go any farther, he tried some more and it smushed. I don't know if it can go farther now. And it is very accurate at 15 yds, I would say my group was only centered about 1" high and 1" right at that distance, and they were all within the 6" bullseye. I will have to shoot 25 yds before I decide about that, because the gun has shot very well at that range in the past. I'd like to hear what y'all have to say, since I have no previous experience changing pistol sights. -Rob |
