Three gun is a blast.

Three gun is a blast. I hosted a three gun match in my town last Saturday and it went well. We had 14 shooters. I got 2nd place. I hosted this match as something a little different. I use IDPA scoring rules but the courses are ran more like USPSA matches. I called it a tactical match in that I told people to bring what they actually carry or have for home defense in rifles shotguns and pistols. I did not want to see open USPSA guns. Most followed the spirit of the law pretty well.
We had fun.

Then on Sunday I went to a two gun match in Kenai (pistol and rifle) it was also a blast. I got to shoot a bit further out in that one with the rifle. I got 5th place there but the competition was better. Anyway if you have not tried three gun you should. I shot 2 three gun matches this summer 2 pistol shotgun matches and 1 rifle pistol match. I look forward to the summers here so we can break out the long guns.

This is what I used in my three gun tactical match.

Wilson CQB pistol

Rifle Noveske N4 with Swarovski 1-6 power scope. Love this gun.

Shotgun Benelli M4

In the USPSA three gun matches I use this pistol
my STI EDGE.

Awesome man, glad you had a good time. 3gun is such a giant blast! It's just really really expensive lol.

Our club here has a couple pistol caliber carbine stages in our 2nd match of the month. It's pretty fun, but I wish we could have some shotgun in there too.

Our local range has Wednesday night "2-gun Fun Runs". They alternate between pistol/carbine and pistol/shotgun, with the occaisional carbine/shotgun match thrown in. It is usually 2-3 stages with 5-15 shooters, and they stick pretty much to the USPSA rules.

You have to bug the club guys that put the matches on. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. You also need to be willing to help out in set up and getting everything organized. I sponsored and ran one of the three gun shoots myself at my local range. If you have it they will come. Just make sure you advertise well. I gave out trophies as well. I wish I could raise enough money to give guns out.

I've been working on it for 2 months man. I'm trying to get them to let me be a match director for either a pistol caliber carbine match or a pistol/pistol caliber carbine match once a month.

I'm there before and after every match setting up and cleaning up. I know what it takes but where out club is it's hard to get clearance for such things.

Keep trying sounds like its an uphill battle. I am lucky that I have unfettered access to a leo range that I can use for matches.

My club actually just got clearance to use steel targets for rifles in our three gun matches.

This helps speed up scoring on 100 yard+ shots.

We run the matches with IMGA rules:

3gunrules.com - Homepage

We have some of the top 3-Gun guys in the Southeast so I just go shoot for fun and help run the match.

The problem is that it was nearly impossible for us to even find the place we shoot at now... it was originally just a rifle range for sighting in and such with a couple bays. They already kinda hate that we shoot two matches a month.

The guy who's head of the little board thing is a jerk too. I'll get it going eventually but it won't be incredibly easy lol.
