If you have never shot IDPA, you need to.

I watched one match a couple of weeks ago and it looked interesting. On Thursday night, I went back to the same range because they were having drills. OMG, I don't think I have ever had so much fun shooting! I had a blast! There were a total of eight people there, and everyone picked a scenario and all the shooters went through each one. Strong arm only, weak arm only, multiple targets, different positions, different shot placement, everything. I have been looking for something like this for years and didn't even know it. We weren't even using obstacles this time. It was all about shooting from a certain point at a certain target. I am sure that alot of you know all about this and it is nothing new, but I think others, like me, have never paid much attention to it, and they need to.

Even if I never compete in a match, the skills I will develop from the drills will be worth their weight in gold. I think that would apply to anyone. Go to a drill session and see if you don't get hooked.

I am going back on Tuesday for some drills using an obstacle course. It is a simple course using barrels as the obstacles. It is held at a little indoor range, and it starts late enough that I can get there after work. I spend less money doing the drills than I normally do at the range because I actually shoot fewer rounds. Even if I factor in the cost of gas I come out ahead.

I won't go on and on about it, but I am so happy about it. A big thanks to Jim for inviting me the first time. I will say again that if you have never attended a match, or gone through some of the drills, you really need to. It will make you a better shooter, and you will have fun.

I never have but would love to attend. Shame there are none anywhere near where I live.

I've been shooting IDPA monthly for over three years. I love it.

IDPA is fun and a great sport to start with to get you ready for the real thing USPSA. I like both but prefer USPSA as its a lot more interesting.

If you enjoy that then wait until you try your first 3 gun match!

Rifle, shotgun and pistol just in case you dont know what a 3 gun match is.

All the shooting sports are great. Static Steel, Falling Steel, IDPA, USPSA (IPSC), 3-gun or for the true adreline rush, shoot MULTI-Gun. Of course, multi-gun costs the most, takes the most amount of time, and is the most nerve racking --- but there is nothings as cool as shooting your rifle, shotgun, and pistol all on the same stage without taking a break to re-gear!!!

3-Gun

I used to love shooting 3-Gun.
Last year, after spending a year in pain, my surgeon operated on my right shoulder and repaired it as well as he could. 45 years of shooting rifles and shotguns had made a mess of everything.

Now I only shoot pistols and .22 rifles.

I'd have to agree with AKpopo here. I shot my first IDPA match and while it was good practice drawing from concealment and the like, after a year of shooting USPSA and being in the "gamer mindset", there were some habits that got me some procedurals (reloading on the move while going past a door where I'd already "neutralized the threat", not reloading with retention, and a couple others). I may shoot it a couple more times, but USPSA is definitely a lot more fun to me, and you can be tactically sound, gaming, or anything in between when you're shooting the course.

I'm trying to resisting the urge to get into 3-gun, as my wallet and savings account would not be happy with me.

I would love to do something like that if I actually had someone to go with. None of my friends enjoy firearms or shooting...and going to the indoor range by yourself can get a little old at times.

Same here. I've been wanting to get into IDPA. Drop a line if you are going to be down towards Charlotte, and we can find a range to go to. I'm always looking for a shooting partner.
