Just shot my first IDPA match

Carried my XD9 Service instead of the XD9 Sub Compact. Used WWB FMJ with nary a bobble on its part. There were two stages that I made mistakes on. On the third stage, I somehow managed to have an empty mag in my pouch when I did my first reload. DUH!!! On the fourth stage, I didn't keep moving while shooting but did the SASS thing of step-shoot-step-shoot-step-shoot. I'm 6'5" and it wouldn't have taken me long to cross the range to the point that I'd been shooting at a 60° back to my right. I saw some of the other shooters do what I will call the "IDPA Shuffle" for lack of a better term to keep moving but not move. Their game, their ball, and so its their rules.

Interesting mix of pistols. Had several comment favorably on my XD9. One guy had won one at a match and had it sent in for a trigger job prior to him using it. Couple more either had them or was going to get one for IDPA. The impression that they gave me was that the XD was gaining ground in IDPA.

I'll post more after my next match.

I bet you're the only person that has ever came up with an empty mag . Been there more than once! Yeah you gots to do the 'ol IDPA shuffle on them moving stages. I've seen a guy do the moon walk while moving backwards engaging the targets.
Always good to see shooters come out and give it try.

IDPA is the only real-life thing I've found useful for the stuff in marching band.

No matter how many times a lot of folks try using their smallest baby step, they can't seem to do 2 shots on three targets while moving backwards and only end up about 6 inches behind where they started.

Got the proverbial dumb question about IDPA membership and matches. Here's the deal, paid ¢a$h for my club membership and got to shoot the first match free. Sent off my app+agreement+postal money order on Friday for my IDPA membership. Made copies of everything and kept it.

¿Do I have to wait until IDPA sends me a membership card or can I just present the copies to show that the proverbial cheque is in the mail?? Reason I'm asking is that the club has a match Wednesday night and want to go.

Don't have to wait. If you happen to shoot a classifier match before you get the membership packet, they will just log your score and enter in on your card when you get it. Keep on a shootin'.
