Welcome back party...
... so last Saturday, 14 June, I decided that I was going to shoot the IDPA classifier again though I haven't live fired my XD in 7 months. I've only shot the classifier once back last May where I shot with my stock sights and I shot a measly 174 for ESP MM. That next week I changed out the front sight for a Dawsons FO one. Well, I decided to give it a try. I also haven't reloaded since I left for training so I worked up a load I'd never tried before (because the store didn't have the powder I wanted). My new recipe goes as follows:
Winchester brass MagTech Small Pistol and Revolver primers 4.0 grains of Winchester WST powder 180 grain LaserCast lead bullets Well, I shot the classifier and did better than I'd hoped. With no practice since being back home I shot a surprising 112.97. I'm very pleased with the score. I wanted Expert - missed it by 4.5 seconds - but like I said, I've been away at boot camp and a school for a while. I dogged the 2nd stage and was a little timid the first stage. I shot a few practice rounds before I shot the course and was not happy with the groupings. But when I shot the first course and everything was exactly where I wanted, I was happy. The second stage I got too cocky. The first two strings went off without a hiccup and I think I was down 1 just out the zone and low right on T1 but when I got to strong hand only I had a few shots where I was looking at the target with no sight picture. The only thing successful about that was I watched myself pull the shots left. Stage 3, I knew what I needed to d and set out to do it as quickly as possible without rushing the shots. One other thing I was happy about was I had no mikes and i think maybe 4 or 5 -3/D zones. I've got to work on some things though like shooting more aggressive, trigger squeeze/accuracy, reloads are rusty, transitions between targets, strong/weak hand (where I pulled a couple on stage 2), and getting used to the load. The load is a good one and I like how it feels. It's probably a little "hot" for production/ESP but I like how it goes back to target. I noticed it on stage 3 as I could see the sights come right back. It was stage 3 that I felt I could see how the gun was reacting to the load. Next match I shoot, I want/need to have video to study. My goal for Master by the end of this season is looking good. For those who know the stages I'll post my times... Stage 1 (down 1 on T1, 1 on T2, and 3 on T3) String 1 - 2.96 String 2 - 2.68 String 3 - 2.91 String 4 - 5.77 String 5 - 3.35 String 6 - 6.13 String 7 - 4.88 Stage 2 (down 4 on T1, 7 on T2, and 8 on T3) String 1 - 4.05 String 2 - 4.03 String 3 - 8.96 String 4 - 5.30 Stage 3 (down 10 on T1, 8 on T2, and 7 on T3) String 1 - 15.33 String 2 - 15.81 String 3 - 6.34 P.S. I heard that if you win a division (MM, SS, EX) at a major match and you beat out 10 ppl in your division you automatically get bumped up. Same if you beat 6 ppl in your division for the win and then 4 ppl in the division above you... is that true?

That is Correct, I got bumped at Texas State from SS to EX beating the 12 in my division. The second place can get bumped if there are 20 in the division and so on.

Gotcha. I beat 6 in my division, 3 in SS, and 2 in EX at the 2007 Oregon State Match. Eh well, I'm clearly a SS now. Like I said, I don't plan on being here too long so we shall see. I'll keep everyone posted.

My goal was always to make Master with a stock gun. With last weekend performance I definitely see that possible now and within grasp. I didn't have a single reset problem and obviously my times were decent.
