ESP or CDP
I went to and shot in my first IDPA over the weekend. Had a ball and reached both my goals 1. Don't shoot anybody and 2. Don't shoot myself!
I was the first to show up at this club with an XD-45. I asked which class I should shoot in and the discussion started. While everyone knew I would shoot either ESP or CDP, the camp was split on which one to shoot. Half said I was at a disadvantge shooting ESP aginst the 9's and 40's because of the 45's recoil and getting back on target and the other half was saying I was at a disadvantage shooting CDP because the 1911's that I would be competeing against. I ended up shooting ESP.I didn't really care since it was my first time but I got to thinking where does the XD-45 fit best/ most competitive? What say Yee?

In my club your odds of placing higher in your class would be better in CDP due to the sheer number of good shooters in ESP...many of whom shoot 9mm. I alternate between classes with my XD9 Tactical and my XD45 Service. They both have their own advantages, but I shoot the XD9 in ESP more often than not. The price of ammo is a factor to take into account also. Be safe, have fun!

I would shoot that gun in CDP. If in esp you will be against some tricked 9mm 1911's. Either way your doing the same thing with usually one more reload. I would shoot it in CDP.

I would go CDP. No reason to be afraid if the 1911s.

I won CDP Division at IDPA National championship last year with my XD 45. At the S&W indoor nationals, I again won CDP and this time with an M&P 45. 1911s have nothing on the plastic guns!!!
As for your division choice, CDP is probably the best option unless you are loading your own very light 45 ammo.
