Shot Timer
I've been looking at picking up one of these since I got certified as an RO and don't like to keep borrowing one from the guys. I think it'd be nice to have when practicing too and having one for the IN Sectional Match seems like a good excuse to purchase one.
Right now I'm looking at either a CED 7000 or a Pocket Pro II. I've got some experience using a PPII, but not the 7000. However, a friend has recommended the 7000 to me. Any input on experiences or recommendations on one or the other would be welcome. Thanks in advance guys.

If you have 'old' eyes like me I think you'll like the PocketPro better. The numbers are easy to see, much bigger. When I work a match that uses the 7000 I have a hard time seeing the numbers well.
You will also see several of my shooting buds working the Indiana Match.

I have both a Pocket Pro II and a CED 7000. I prefer the CED 7000, it is smaller, easier for me to use. I find that I can hear the tone from the CED 7000 easier than the Pocket Pro II. The down side of the CED 7000 is no way to change batteries for those long match days. The other is I once dropped it heading down range to reset some steel, the darn thing is so small took me forever to find it. That being said I would buy the CED 7000 over the Pocket Pro II.

I've had PPII for about two months now. The buttons seem to be set "upside-down" to me...and it's bigger than I expected (the "pocket" reference should read "cargo pocket"). Performance is rock-solid. The tone is audible, and yeah, the display has nice, big, friendly characters.

I have had the CED 8000 for a few years now and I love it. It has some really great features for individual practice (including earplugs which make dry fire practice at home nice). A lot of its features are customizable and it has a lot of built in modes. If it has any faults it would be that it shows that I am slower than I really am(ha! ha!).

I own both. They both have good and bad points. The CED is compact but you have to remember to charge it before every match. I have one shooter at our club that cannot hear the high pitched beep from the CED.
The PPII uses a 9v battery, the display is easier to read, and James can actually hear the buzzer. My best bud from my yankee days is the range master at the IN match. |

I have a CED7000 and love it. As guys have mentioned it compact. I'm not running matches with mine just practicing so for me it works perfect.

I bought a CED 8000 a few summers ago it is a great shot timer that is very easy to use. I really like all the custom par times, and other things that are customizable. I am planninong buying a 7000 mostly because it has a lot more features available.
