IDPA Questions
I have been reading the rulebook and obtaining a lot of information on this but I do have a couple of questions:
1. Seems like the stages would be a lot to remember for each string. Do you get briefed on the goal of each string before you shoot it? 2. Do you just show up at a club that hosts IDPA competitions, express interest, and do the classifier?

They do stage descriptions at the beginning of the match. You can always ask again during the match.
Most clubs have a simple website. The one I shoot with prefers you email them via the website to tell them you want to shoot. Then they hook you up with a mentor and teach you the basics. Some people just show up to watch first, then start asking questions. You can shoot matches without being classified. You'll find the people in IDPA are very friendly and will welcome new shooters with open arms.

Thanks for your help! I did a search on google for IDPA clubs here in Wisconsin and I found one about 1 1/2 hours away. I sent them an email and eagerly await their response! Thanks again

The IDPA website has a club locator thing.
International Defensive Pistol Association - Affiliated Club Contact Information You can check out our club's website. Much of the new shooter stuff applies to any club. Cross Timbers IDPA

Welcome to the fun sport of IDPA shooting. What type of firearm will you be using...the XD45?

That's the plan, it is the only handgun that I own so far. But I am quickly addicted and will most likely be buying more in the near future

Correct. ESP or CDP. With ESP, you'll load up with 10 rounds per mag. With CDP, it will be 8. Everything else is the same. It just means your reloads will be at different points.

I am in the Army National Guard. Due to drill weekends would they allow me to shoot on an alternate date then when the match is actually scheduled? Or would this vary from club to club?

Honestly, most of the fun is just BS'ing with the other shooters anyway. Good Luck!
