Myself and a friend are gonna go check out a match on June 14th to watch and see what it's all about. Any suggestions on an IDPA holster for my xd .45 tact?

1. They do explain the course of fire before shooting.

2. I would make contact before hand, more than likely you will have to go earlier or something so you can receive a short safetly presentation. usually your first match is free.

As said above, I would check out the club locator at the IDPA website, you may find an even closer club...

Remember that is not the definitive list of IPDA clubs, either...there are at least two more near me that are not on that list.

Ripon, WI is the closest I can find to Green Bay, WI on that list and by searching google.

I have been using the Blade-Tech Sting Ray for IDPA competition for three years now. It sells for $62.95 at this site: Blade Tech holsters, knives and tactical gear for military, law enforcement, shooting competition and hunting.. It really works well for me. I recommend buying the mag holders as well.

Dude.. the site you want to look at is Wisconsinshooters.com

They have a schedule and forum for the whole state. (IDPA and USPSA)

Most matches have a walk-through where you go through the stage and get the chance to see the targets. IDPA is much easier to shoot than USPSA, because you are usually given a starting point and an ending point, and you follow the fundamental rules as you progress (shoot from behind cover when it is available, don't reload in the open, engage the targets in the order you see them when looking out from behind cover).

It may seem a little intimidating, but if you take everything slowly and focus on safety and smoothness, it will all make sense pretty quickly. Tell yourself at first that you are going to completely ignore the timer. If you can set the ego aside, you'll improve faster than if you tell yourself, "I wish I shot/moved/reloaded faster."

If you know you are going to stay involved, spend the $65-70 for a Blade Tech Stingray or Comp-Tac kydex holster. If you aren't sure, consider a $25 Fobus holster (belt loop model, not the paddle holster). The Blade-Tech/CompTacs absolutely smoke the Fobus holster, but the Fobus isn't worthless (and you can always pass it on to a new shooter down the road if you decide to upgrade).

As someone else said, almost definitely not.

Well I lost track of this thread for a while. Thanks to all for the great info on IDPA. I wasn't able to go to the match today because some things came up, but hopefully next month.

Green Bay, WI IDPA

Ripon is the closest offering IDPA.
A couple of friends and myself drove down there to check it out a while back and have been back since. It's a good little club with great people. They offer an intro class that is well worth the small fee, you should check it out.

I've talked to a bunch of people in GB who are interested in this. I've been calling all the local clubs and ranges to ask about IDPA. The more people we can get to show interest the better. Call the GB clubs, get your friends to call... sooner or later we'll get through to them and we won't have to drive all the way to Ripon.
