Mike Hughes Battles To Win Area 6 Production Title

April 23, 2008

Sedro-Woolley, WA — In a hotly contested match that had four different leaders and saw six lead changes, Mike Hughes pulled out a victory on the final stage to take the Production Division title at the 2008 United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Area 6 Championships.

"What an exciting match," declared Charles Bond, USPSA’s Area 6 Director. "At some point four of the top five shooters held the lead only to see it slip away. It looked as if Jeff DeGracia might take the match after recapturing the lead on the 10th stage and holding it through the 11th.

But on the 12th and final stage Mike came back from a 10-point deficit to take the match by more than three points. This is what the sport of Practical Shooting is all about."

The match began with DeGracia taking the lead on the first two stages only to surrender it to Chuck Anderson on the third. On the fourth stage Mike Hughes captured the lead and held it until the eighth stage when DeGracia reclaimed the lead. On the ninth stage Rodney May came out on top only to give it back to DeGracia on the tenth. DeGracia held the lead after the 11th and finished second overall as Hughes won the 12th stage. Gordon Carrell finished the match in third place while Rodney May and Chuck Anderson finished fourth and fifth respectively.

The USPSA Area 6 Championships were held at the South River Gun Club in Covington, Georgia April 18-20. A total of 335 top shooters competed in USPSA’s Open, Limited, Limited-10, Production, Revolver and Single Stack divisions.

About USPSA: The United States Practical Shooting Association is a non-profit membership association affiliated with the International Practical Shooting Confederation (I.P.S.C.), which is comprised of approximately 67 nations. USPSA’s now 16,500+ members and 350 affiliated clubs make it the largest and fastest growing Practical Shooting sport.
