UPDATE: First IDPA Match!!!

One word description: “Addictive!!!”

I did try to heed everyone’s suggestion and focus on safety and accuracy, not speed. But, when that buzzer went off, I forgot about trying to go slow. I did however not receive any warnings, procedural errors, FTDR, etc. So, I was safe and this was my primary concern, especially as a first timer.

The match director told me that I did well for a first timer. I had no misses and my speed was good. I did however have points down on several targets for not hitting center mass. This is where my inexperience showed. Any CoF, which were all but one, that required shooting behind barricades, moving, etc. I would not hit center mass on a few targets and therefore would receive points down. I am new and expected this. I am not used to shooting like this and have had no practice.

However, there was one course of fire, limited Vickers, where we had to engage three targets from about 10 yards out in a certain order and with a certain number of rounds. T1-1 shot, T2-2, T3-3; then T3-1, T2-2, T1-3. I did extremely well on this CoF. I was quick and only had 1 that was not center mass and therefore received 1 PD. I got some whistles and compliments on that one. The reason I did well is because this is more how I have practiced. At the range you just stand there and shoot. I have not had the opportunity to shoot while moving or behind barricades, etc. This is why IDPA is so important. It offers me the chance to better my skills in these scenarios. It is great FUN also!!!

Thanks for all those on the forum who helped and gave good suggestions. I have a lot of work to do and need to practice. But, it was a wonderful experience. And yes, I am hooked!!!

On a side note, many who shoot the matches at the club, shoot XD’s. In fact the club name is XD shooters.

Comments welcome!!!

thats awsome

I am new to IDPA aswell. I have a xd 45 service. I shoot CDP MM. It made my day when last weeked I came first in my class and it was only my second match. I think that IDPA is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

I can't wait to get into uspsa but I need a diferent gun (tax money).

Agreed. It is great fun. I am anxiously awaiting the next match, this coming Sunday.

Welcome to IDPA shooting. I have been competing for three years now and absolutely love it. Our monthly match is next week.

May I offer some friendly advice? Work on accuracy over speed. "You can't miss fast enough to win a match". It sounds like you may already know this however. Have fun and be safe.

+1

I appreciate the advice. Believe me, I learned this the first match, the hard way. It was not my intention to try to go fast, its just that buzzer made me go "off to the races". I will try to focus on accuracy next time.

Thanks...

You can't miss fast enough to win, but the winners rarely shoot clean.
