Go SLOW. Pretend the clock is not there. Focus on being safe, being smooth, and being even more safe.
When that buzzer goes off, you are probably going to forget everything that you heard in the new shooter briefing. Don't sweat it...as long as your only thought is being safe. Watch your muzzle. Watch your finger. Don't run. Do this at every match until it is instinctive. THEN consider speeding things up a bit. But remember that being a speed demon isn't what wins matches. If you watch the pros like Sevigny and Leatham, it's not that they are that amazingly fast so much as that everything they do is efficient. So learn to be smooth and you'll eventually surprise yourself how fast it makes you. Have fun. Ask questions. Leave your ego at home. Oh, and start putting money away. Practical pistol competitions are addictive and ammo is just getting more expensive. Enjoy, Jim |

Thanks for all your suggestions. You obviously speak from experience. Everything that you have said has been taken to heart and I will certainly impliment what you have said. I will try to focus on being safe and accurate. Thanks again...
P.S. I am very aware that I will be humbled, but I am a person who likes to learn and is not afraid to show that I need to learn...

That is the attitude many of the great shooters have and will serve you well. Ego is not good for the sport or the shooter.
