I think its because Glock is just more well known. People I know that dont even know a single thing about guns knows a Glock, but dont know which model or what caliber, but they know Glock. In my opion, I've own a Glock 22 and I like it, but I think i like my XD40 more because it fits me better and i havent had any problems with it in the 9,000+ rounds I put thru it...well....2 ftf because those were my dummy rounds..which didnt have primers.. haha

As for the other two, you know how sheepish yuppies are.... Brand Recognition and that is all they are going on. And that junk M&P is being sold dirt cheap so that cuts the XD sales a lot, too. But you get what you pay for. Long after that M&P is in the junk heap, our XD's will keep on shooting!
What!!
Where do you get your info about the M&P being junk. It is just as great a pistol as the XD, different but but a very high quality firearm. Also the M&P is at about the same price point as the XD. If you know of a firesale let us in on it.

A point of clarification about my original post.

The survey in Front Sight (The official USPSA magazine) was taken from the competitors at the 2007 Nationals . It's not even a survey that includes all USPSA members, let alone all market sales. That why I posted it in this forum.

I have no idea the market share of the XD or any other gun, but at the 2006 Nationals the XD had a 15% share and it dropped to 8.5 in 2007. S&W went from 6% in 2006 to 12% and CZ went from 8.6% to 13%. Glock went from 55% to 58.5%.

This gives USPSA a "running snapshot" of the flavor of the year.

I love my XD and have no intention of trying anything else. I'm no bandwagoner. Like I said before - if it aint broke-dont fix it.

ps.. XD_from_LBC...no flaming, but to me, the glock feels like holding a 2X4

Here in Canada we get the XD's for around $800. Retailers are always having special buys on M&P's for $599.

Three of us rented a new-just-added-to the rental-cabinet M&P and we all hated it. All three of us didn't like the weight. We didn't like the high bore axis. We didn't like the action. We defianately didn't like the plasticy feel. We had them change the adjustable backstrap. Nothing felt right and we couldn't hit the A zone worth beans. Groups looked like a shotgun for all three of us. We complained and they switched it for one with about 1500 rounds through it. Still the same sloppy junk.

If it was one or two of us, I could see it being a personal thing, but it was all three of us so the gun just bit the big one on our three's opinion. And we all shoot different guns and two of us are fairly experienced with handguns.

I love S&W round guns except for the over-price but I have never liked any of their semi's that I've fired over the years.

Addition... just so you know, we all read and heard that the M&P was a great gun so we went into the rental with high hopes and expectaions of this gun and one of us was thinking of buying one. We let him shoot first since he knew less about handguns. After we all took turns, he bought a 1911 instead.

The XD on the other hand, I went in thinking "oh no, not another plastic gun to try out and end up hating". I had no expectations what-so-ever and after the first box, gave it back to my buddy and said "Here. I can't shoot this any more. I don't want to get to like it too much or I'll have to buy one". Now I have two.

Dude...that's horrible...can you buy in the US and bring it in? $500 anywhere down here and often less.

That is definitely a factor. I have been trying to get my brother into handguns for a while now and he doesn't really pay attention. But, he recently said, "This summer I am going to get a gun. A Glock." Now, he wouldn't know one if he saw one that didn't say it, and he doesn't know jack about any others, but he does know the Glock name.

+ a million. I am happier with my XDs than ever. I continue to have very high expectations of their performance, and they continue to impress me.

All in all, I could care less about how popular they are. As long as they are still available.

Wow $800 for a XD in our northern neighbor thats pricey. Both pistols in my neck of the woods run between $500 $540. I have 4 XD's and a M&P. I like them both the M&P does not feel any less of a quality piece than the XD. The shape lends it self to concealed carry a bit better than the XD. personally I like them both, they each have their strong & weak points. From my personal observations and others that also own the firearm I would not classify it as a piece of junk. But we each have our own likes & dislikes, the great part is that we have so many options out there to choose from.

I'm curious what issue of Front Site you guys are reading. XDs weren't in the top 4 in Limited, Open, or Production in '07.

I just shot my XD tactical .40S&W in production recently. I must confess that I felt I did better and I did shoot my first perfect stage with the XD.

I usually shoot a Sig P226.

I see some XDs at my local club. A few Sigs, a lot of Glocks and a lot of CZs. The CZs surprised me. They were never even on my radar.

I don' see myself at Nationals any time soon, but I'd feel pretty good about using my XD.
