Tru Glos on XD In IDPA and USPSA

I have Tru Glos on my XD9 4" because originally it was going to be my all around gun.

It has pretty much been designated as my game gun.

Does anyone shoot an XD in matches with tru Glos?

I am starting to notice that they seem blocky when doing head shots in IDPA stages and some long range shots.

Would switching to Dawson's be a better option?

I am also debating going to a 5" but that is a different story.

Curious as to what "blocky" means? I have tru glo on my XD45 Service and was thinking about shooting it in IDPA as well. Would it be better to just shoot my XD9 with trjicons?

I have Tru Glos on both of my XD's. Works for me.

I have Trijicons on mine. They are a little harder to see than traditional plain white dots or even the Truglo's from what I can tell, but they still do me just fine. This is on a XD9SC so that 5" idea really turns me on too. Seems like the shorter guns have a disadvantage in IDPA, but I shoot what I carry and therefore I deal with it.

By blocky I mean there is not the level of accuracy needed for some stages.

I have shot other XDs with Dawson's or even other sights and they seem easier to line up for head shots or long range shots as compared to the Tru Glos.

The Tru Glos seem to have a large front sight and a large gap in the rear notch.

Dawsons and other target sights seem to have a thin front sight and a normal rear sight notch which allows for a larger margin of error and still have a relatively accurate shot.

My POA/POI is also alittle off which makes me compensate by aiming lower.

I am not saying they are not great sights. I just want to hear from people that shoot in IDPA and USPSA on a relatively high level and are competitive.

I am not interested in shooting my carry weapon from an IWB holster for matches. I train separately for self defense.

I shoot matches for fun and to compete.

Tru Glo

I have tru glo's on my service and Dawson on my Tactical as well as on my Kimber. The smaller Dawson front with the black rear makes accurate aiming at distance easier. The Tru Glo's on my service makes acquisition quicker. I think it is a matter of taste and what you get accostumed to. Being an older shooter, I found the Tactical to be more accurate for me than the service in IDPA.

I have Tru-Glo TFO's on my XD45 Service. I compete with it in IDPA and love 'em. Precision shooting at long range is easy with them. But then I also don't have a problem doing precision long range shots with express style sights...some people do.

I've shot tru's and Dawson/heinies. And I prefer the Dawson Precision Fiber optic fronts, with a plain rear sight like the Heinie race slants.

For competitive shooting I think it helps my eye acquire the front sight more efficiently because my eye's don't catch the rear fibers.

Front sight, front sight, front sight!!

Nice 45

Why not go with a full aluminum magwell since it seems like that is tricked out for USPSA and not IDPA?

BTW I ended up buying an XD9 Tactical off a board member and it has a thin fiber front and low mount Bomar adjustable in the rear.

Can't wait to try it out in a few local matches before the SC state match in a few months.
