XD .40 sub0compact to start out with??

I know that the xd .40 sub is a poor choice for serious IPSC and USPSA style matches, but that is all I have right now. Would it be ok to start with just at the local level? We have a handgun club in town here that has various meets through out the summer. The rule book says that their is open sight semi and optic semi classes. And also the semi class has two divisions that are limited to ten rounds in the magazines. It looks like I would need to get some ten round mags with some Pearce extensions and then I would be good to go. Would this set up be ok just to get used to this stuff and maybe get a new gun in a year or so? Would I be the laughing stock of the tourney or will I do ok? Thanks guys!

If that is what you have why not?

To get some good training on that gun would be well worth it.

Shoot what you got to start. You will be just fine with your XD-40SC for learning the basics. As you get into the sport you will learn more about it and thus what new equipment you might want for the division that interest you most.

+1

I shoot IDPA with my carry gun regularly for fun and practice. My carry pistol only has 7rnds but it sure is fun. I have RO'd for several matches and practices where people used the XD sub-compacts and did fairly well. As a bonus they learned a ton about their carry gear choices and using their pistols.

I live in a small town, there is nothing like that around here or else I would! I wish there was though.

How can it hurt to get better with your only gun???? You are far better off improving with your only gun than winning some relatively meaningless competition (meaningless compared to being able to use your primary defensive weapon).

Use the competition to improve your skills. If you find you really like the IPSC shooting, save your money and find something for that. In the meantime, don't compromise your defensive abilities.

Doesn't take a big town to have an IDPA group.

There isn't an IDPA club within 200 miles.
