Here is what I have setup. They stay outside year round. It is about 200yards off my back deck, I can hit the big one with the 10-22 nearly half the time...

Here is the bigger target. I call him mr bad man.... 1/2 steel that rings really well. .22lr and all pistol rounds are fine. It is angled down and directs most splatter in the ground. I will shoot at these targets from as close as 5 yards with pistols. Never an issue. I have shot in excess of 2k at these so far.

my rifle targets are 100, 250, 350,450,and 500 yards..small steel round pieces of 3/4 in scrap. They are nice for rifle but not what I was looking for to use as pistol targets...I do liek the idea of a slight tilt to keep bullets hitting the ground though

No, don't use jacketed bullets, use only cast lead when shooting at steel targets.

I am sorry but you are incorrect. FMJ bullets are safe to fire against steel targets. IDPA and USPSA as well as the Steel challange has thousands of people shooting steel with jacketed bullets with no ill effects.

This is what I built, for less than $30, and most of that was to pay someone to weld them for me. I built 3 of them. Very simple, cheap, and easy.

*NOTE* This is not the exact one, but this is where I got the idea. It ALWAYS returns, perfectly.

Sorry that picture was so big, but I wanted him to get a good look at how it was built.

On another note-- Make sure you use BOLTS to secure the target (red piece) to the swinging arm. If you choose to weld it (like a friend did), you'll find it very difficult to replace the target, if ever needed.

What put the big holes in the target? Or are those just big marks?
