what gun for competition?

gonna get into shooting the USPCA locally. All i have is a XD 40 subcompact..I shoot it fairly well but its expensive to shoot and snaps har enough that I dont want to practice 100's of rounds with it. Great CC gun but not for box after box for me. Looking at the stock production calls that allows some minor internal only tweaking. Thinking a bigger heavier gun would help accuracy? Probably 9mm for cheaper ammo. I reload rifle rounds but dont have the time for much else. I live in the country so a place to practice a lot is easy. Are the 1911 models avail in 9mm without breaking the bank? I know this is a lot to ask but I need competitive accuracy, max ammo capacity, bigger gun to control recoil, reliabilty..heres the kicker..I am on a budget..lol thought and suggestions??

Well, budget is probably going to mean 9mm. To be competitive with 9mm means Production division. 10 rounds max per magazine. I would look at Glock, XD or M&P 5" guns.

You say max ammo capacity but in USPSA a 9mm will be at a scoring disadvantage in any category other than Production. If you're OK with that then you can shoot Limited. Glock is very popular as you can get pretty high cap magazines. People who shoot in the division pretty regularly get 20+ rounds in a mag with .40.

now

that i didnt know..i thought the mag could hold as many as possible.. so a 10 round max will be strictly produvtion..I am fine with that..i feel if i can do well at the production level then I would move up. Shoulda kept my service model XD in 9 ..what the diff in production and double stacked?

The 1911 offered by SA in 9mm is like a dream to shoot it barely has more recoil the P22
Para might offer one
I would got Para or SA

What division are you shooting? That might help people to suggest a pistol for you.

I shoot an XD45 Service (CDP) and an XD9 Tactical (ESP) in IDPA and my XD9 Tactical in USPSA (Production). The 9mm is definitely cheaper to shoot.

i will

be shooting the production class...dont have funds to spend my way to speed and accuracy...what i do have is pretty good accuracy already and plenty of time to practice out my back door...WHat 9mm is probably the most accurate right out of the box with minimal recoil?

Just my U-Classified Production Shooter opinion here, so take it for what it's worth. Since your staying in production, I'd say XD-9 in 4" or 5". You're already familiar with the platform and you wouldn't have to get familiar with another type of gun.

The Glock 34 or M&P 9 would be good choices too (I'm going to a G34 next year because I got a helluva deal on it ). A 9mm 1911 would throw you into the Single Stack or Limited/Limited-10 end of the pool.

Buy a stock tactical 9mm XD9... Shoot it for a couple months.

After that, save up and send it in for new sights (you only have to ship the slide, costs less). Shoot it for a couple months.

After that, save up for a trigger job, get use to it and shoot it for a couple months.

It'll keep your shooting getting better and better and won't cost as much as dumping $1,300 on a full gear all tweaked out.

Excellent advice. Personally, though, I'd do the trigger first and then the sights. But I'm a converted 1911 shooter who was used to a <3lb SA trigger, Either way, that's all they really need.
