Yes, but as a new shooter the sight upgrade is going to get you a greater increase in your shooting then the trigger upgrade. It's not until later when you try to refine your shooting that the trigger will make such a large impact.

XD9 Tactical, 3 more mags, Blade Tech or Comp Tac holster...........and a bunch of ammo to have fun with. Worry about sights and trigger work later.

My vote goes towards a used (or new depending on funds) full-sized sig, beretta, CZ or high power.

well

since i am very familiar with the XD most likely will stick with that. I didint realize a 1911 would push me out of the production category tho I am not sure why it does...it IS a production gun!....Prob Tactical XD in 9mm with adj sights right away..I am no noob to guns so the sights are gettin done right out of the box..maybe a drop in trigger kit later on this Spring

You can generally shoot a stock 1911 in Production. You said cost was an issue, and the polymer guns should be cheaper. All calibers shot in Production score minor. So shooting a .40 or .45 would generally put you at a recoil disadvantage. You can have magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, but you may only have 10 rounds in the magazine at the start signal.

You really need to go to the uspsa web site and read the rules for each division. You can also get a list of the guns allowed in the Production division.

http://www.uspsa.org/

Click on How Do I Get Started.

Here are the rules and Production gun list: http://www.uspsa.org/rules/

The XDs are a good place to start for the money..I got to grope a 1911 for the first time over the weekend and really have the itch.lol BUT the checkbook says differently. Now gotta build some steel targets to practice at home on.

To my knowledge, you could only shoot something like a Para-Ord LDA. The appendix for production specifically prohibits single-action-only guns and says that at the start of a stage, guns with external hammers must be decocked. That rules out a very, very large portion of 1911's that I know of.

ETA: If you want to stay in production, check this list out. Those are the guns that USPSA/NROI approved for Production

You're right! I was thinking about everything BUT the trigger type. No Single Action in Production is correct.

A Production Division gun must be fired double action first shot. I shoot IPSC PD with both a CZ75 SP01 Shadow 9mm. & HS2000 Tactical 9mm. The HS/XD as with Glock & similar striker-fire guns, are classed as DAO, all shots are fired with the same trigger pull weight. CZ is a DA/SA gun. First shot is fired DA & consecutive shots are S/A.
Both guns are excellent choices, as are Glock, M&P etc.

Cheers, Ando.
