IDPA 101 Class
I just got back from attending an IDPA 101 class at the Michigan City Rifle Club range in Michigan City Indiana.
I have to say, I was impressed. It removed much of the doubt and confusion about the sport. Towards the end of the class he allowed us all to shoot 3 stages. These stages were very small and only consisted of 5 targets between the three of them. I had a blast! I only shot 13 rounds total but it was the funnest time I have ever had shooting!!!! The main thing it seems with IDPA is SAFETY and MUZZLE AWARENESS. Shooting comes in after that. This was the first time I have ever drawn and fired and I can tell it will take quite a bit of practice. Unfortunately the range director was a GLOCK affiliate. He had quite a dislike of the XD line of weapons, as he made fun of me all night (in a light way). He did, however, say he was highly impressed with the SPRINGER TRIGGER JOB!!!!! He also called me a douche for getting all of the after market work done before ever shooting IDPA =\. My first informal match is going to be this Wednesday and I can't wait!!!! |

Good safety and quality gun handling skills is what IDPA is all about. As I said, everything else is cheap whiskey!

From what he told me, it never looked like I practiced to begin with =P.
No, he said for a first time little trial it was good. He said as long as I have fun and don't kill anyone then that is all that matters. I'm not worried about making any kind of times. I'm really looking forward to socializing with other gun nuts who aren't stuck on the internet and being able to shoot my gun at something other than a square paper with a round target. I think the biggest thrill in that first night was actually pulling my gun out of the holster to shoot it! A little scary too!! |

Oh no, he was kidding. Me and my buddy went to dinner with him and his wife afterwards. He could still turn out to be a prick, but he was cool as hell with us. We were kidding back and forth with each other.
I wouldn't go back to shoot Wednesday if he weren't a nice guy. My buddy is left handed and he kept calling him a 13%er lol. (i guess 13% of people are left handed?). My buddies reply was "well, at least I'm in the right mind/brain". Last edited by Fish609 : 01-14-2008 at 05:10 PM. |

I've been shooting IDPA and USPSA for about two years. No one in our club pokes fun at anyone's selection of a pistol. The range director sounds like he "has issues". Just shrug it off.
