I compete with an XD9 Tactical in both IDPA and USPSA. Scott Springer did the following for me: installed TruGlo TFO sights, a trigger job; fitted a Bar-Sto match barrel, and a bar stock trigger bar. It is a real pleasure to shoot.

The gross time differences were negligible but the XD9 was more accurate so I had less points. I will probably get an XD9 Tactical for my IDPA gun.

I put XS Big Dot sights on my 40sc. The Big Dot sits up a little higher than the stock sights so it was a very tight fit in my Serpa holster. I took a round chain saw file to the holster and was able to get enuf clearance for the sight without messing up the holster.

As far as sights for the XD9, the wife kinda liked the glock sights with the white square U on the rear sight. I coudn't see spending a lot of money to try different sights so I purchased some sight paint (+/- $15). I painted the front sight green and put an orange colored square U on the rear sight. Works great with quick sight alignment. May go to a fiber optic green front sight later.
I had the same problem with my blackhawk....front site (Dawson low mount adjustable) snagging on the bottom of the holster on draw...I went with a bladetech...it has a much deeper front site channel...no more problems

Same here. Shot my bone-stock XD-45 all summer in production. Consistently placed in the middle of the pack this year in my local matches, but I hope to start climbing. Already planning on shooting my first "major" match next year.

I picked up a XD-45ACP Tactical that I am thinking about using in production with some bunny fart loads.

What kind of holster are you using?

It's just the free XD-gear paddle holster that was coming with XD-40 packages back when I bough my XD-40 Tactical. I cut the front down to make it faster to clear the holster. Cutting the top down also made the XD draw smoother with less drag.

Here's my XD-9 Tactical setup for IDPA:

Springer Precision did a 3# competition trigger-job and polished the internals. It has an EFK match barrel, Canyon Creek extended mag release, Dawson fixed fiber-optic sights, DGR w/18# spring, and grip-tape.

The gun is wearing a Magloc magwell in that picture, but I have since stopped using it. It moved around a little too much for my tastes.

I use a BladeTech holster and mag pouches for competition.

I'm using a XD-9 Tactical for IDPA and what little USPSA there is around here.

High 5 for an awesome Dad who got it for me for my 21st birthday and before I even shot the thing stock sent it to Scott Springer for a trigger job and some sights.

The trigger tested at 2.75 lbs and it has a Dawson Adjustable Target rear and FO front. The only other thing I've done is throw some skate board tape on there for grip lol. (May have to get a hard chrome though just becaue I love the look )

For gear I have a Blade Tech Stingray holster and just some cheapo Blade Tech mag holders. The guns an absolute pleasure and I'd reccomend it to anyone.

I shoot an XD9 Tactical in IDPA and IPSC custom. Since getting it, I have moved up from Marksman to Expert in IDPA.

I bought a pre-customized model from Canyon Creek. It is the one from this website, except I didn't get the slide finish and swapped a stainless guide rod for the tungsten one (tungsten isn't IDPA legal).

http://www.canyoncreekcustom.com/Production_Ready.html

Pricey, but that custom-fit BoMar adjustable sight is a work of art.

I recently one another XD9 Tactical at a match, and I am going to spend the $$$ to have Canyon Creek make it identical to my original one.

At minimum, think about swapping your front sight for a fiber optic one, and dropping in a Springer trigger upgrade kit (and his trigger bar to reduce the reset distance, which is pretty bad on an XD stock trigger).

Best,
