Getting started in IDPA

I am planning on starting to shoot IDPA this spring. I'm new to competition shooting and was wondering what things I will need to have in order to shoot in IDPA matches. Also any other advice that you guys that shoot IDPA could give me would be very helpful.

You will need:

1. Your XD
2. 3-4 magazines (10 round mags are fine)
3. An IDPA legal holster (there are many to choose from)
4. A dual mag pouch or two single pouches (you can have only 2 mags on your hip)
5. A cover garment (option:http://ishot-inc.com/store/product_i...products_id=41)
6. 150 rounds
7. Eye Protection
8. Ear protection
9. Belt
10. IDPA membership

That should do it.

You'll also need a rulebook, which you will receive with your paid membership. In the meantime, you'll find an online copy at www.idpa.com.

And a range bag. (Think Old School can fix you up on that.)

Find out where the local IDPA club(s) are and when they shoot. Go watch a match and get the feel of things, and ask questions. Some clubs may have a new shooter orientation you need to attend prior to your first match.

And you need to be ready to have some FUN

R Dub, thanks for the support! As a matter of fact, we have everything you need to get setup for IDPA, outside of the gun and IDPA membership, including the range bag and belt.

I just wanted to vouch for Old School's outfit and say that they are top-notch! After purchasing various and sundry items from Pistol Gear (gearin' up that XD Tac40 for IDPA ya know ), I can say that I was absolutely pleased with both the items and promptness of delivery.

Alright, I'm done with the shameless sucking up.

I know it's already been said, but I think it bares repeating - have fun with it!

The XD falls into Enhanced Service Pistol (ESP) Division.

The XD is still in ESP Division, the Glock is still in SSP Division. There are, however, some new rules regarding the whole sport, including in particular mag/speedloader/moonclip pouches and holsters; the new rules become effective TODAY. The new rulebook can be found at www.idpa.com
