7/16/2007 - 7/21/2007: Multiple Target Double Tap - XDtalk Comp. League

I think some speed drills will be fun, and more challenging. This doesn't have to be timed, but by nature, double taps are typically quick shots.

Firearm: Whatever you carry, it shouldn't be compensated or anything to along the lines of a race gun. This should be a carry gun, something that's basically a production model.

Targets: 25 yard slow-fire pistol targets. Two targets, side by side. These should be available wherever shooting supplies are found.

Distance: 7 yards

Shooting: 8 rounds per magazine, double tap one target, then the other, then back to the first, and then the second again. Effectively, you will double tap each target twice, alternating targets. This isn't a timed drill, but double taps are supposed to be fast. Is saying you should shoot 8 rounds between the two targets in under 10 - 12 seconds unreasonable?

Repeat two more times. At the end, you should have 6 targets with holes in them.

Scoring: Your targets are to be kept in pairs. Select your highest scoring pair of targets. Don't mix and match the best two individual targets. The scoring is how well you can double tap two targets in a round.

Contribution here helps make things go smoother and keeps things interesting. So, if you will...

This will be very hard to do around here.

There very few ranges in the Seattle area that will allow people to do rapid fire if you are not a member and a lot still won't even if you are a member.

There are even fewer that will allow multiple targets. There is only one place that I can think of that will allow this to the general public. Its only available on Thursday evenings 6pm-8pm, its mainly for IDPA practice.

The indoor range where I shoot must be just plain awesome then. $12/hr, no ammo restrictions, and I can hang as many targets on the little target conveyor thing as possible.

The closest legal place to shoot outdoors (forest not range) is about 2-2.5 hours drive from Seattle.

There are several outdoor ranges close (with in an hour drive) but most are very restrictive or members only, sometimes both.

Even the Seattle Police range is pretty restrictive. Its an outdoor range, open to people who buy membership and of course LEOs. General members are not allowed to rapid fire or draw from the holster only LEOs can. The rifle range part just recently allowed more the 1 round loaded at a time and still no rapid fire.

Thats why I do 3-5 classes each year and shoot IDPA 2 times a month. Its the only time and place I can draw and shoot multiple targets.
