First IDPA Classifier

I finally shot my first IDPA classifier this morning (first one the club has had this year) and it was a little more difficult than I anticipated. I was one miss away (my only miss all day) from "Sharp Shooter"... I ended-up a "Marksman".

Shooting from behind cover at 20 yards was a bit difficult, and my one miss came on the last (furthest) target as I was leaning WAY out there. Other than that, my targets were okay, I just need to work on my speed.

At least now I know some things I need to practice on. My time to draw, fire two center-of-mass shots and one headshot (from the 7 yard line) was in the 4.5 second range. Evidently I need more practice drawing and acquiring my sight picture for that first, critical shot.

Oh well... It was a fun way to spend a Saturday morning and 100 rounds of ammo, anyway. There's always next time.

I forgot about my one MAJOR screw-up that cost me some time... I got in a hurry and had one of my magazines backwards in the mag pouch. When I tried to do my reload (slide-lock), everything went fine until I noticed that I was trying to cram the full mag in the gun backwards! I think I might've even cursed out loud when it happened.

I was a little nervous for my first classifier, but I'll remember next time to make sure my sh*t is in order before I hit the line.

good stuff - live and learn. we all make mistakes when first doing the competition stuff - but that's how we know what to work on! Keep it up!

Another good reason to watch those reloads going into the gun.

practice your reloads bot tactical and normal. that can cut upwards of 20 seconds off your classifier.

what about reload with retention - I can do that faster than the tac reloads. do all the reloads have to be tac? Haven't shot the IDPA classifier yet.

either tac or reload with retention on stage 3. the fastest one is the one you dont drop.

thanks much - I'm consistently faster with less "fumble" on the reload with retention

me too. but if you do a tac load on the second string you can leave once you have a full gun and store the mag on the way to the barrel. i dont do it cause i drop the double stacks all the time.

I always get killed on the 20 yard targets. It's tough to get used to when to go fast, and when to be careful.
