With the shorter barrel length, and very concealable, you might consider IDPA. I shoot USPSA with my Tactical and haven't seen any SC models being used. But if you shoot it well, it could work.

Definitely try an IDPA match. Especially if you carry. IDPA like USPSA will give you the benefit of drawing a live pistol from a holster. Don't take this as training it is a game, but ideas presented in IDPA can be a good training aid even if the tactics are not sound. No matter what you try just be accurate at first. Don't try to be fast at all!

We have a shooter that shot his SC at a match. He is a good shooter and was competitive with it. Try them both and see what you like. I like IPSC a little more than IDPA but both are great fun...

Excellent advice.

Both IDPA and USPSA are a lot of fun. They are great places to practice skills that many ranges will not let you do on a normal day.

Your SC is not the greatest gun for either game, but what matters is that you have fun and that you improve your skills.

Get a decent holster, half a dozen mags, a couple of mag holders and find a local match. Take your time, accuracy counts more than speed.

I'd second the vote for IDPA. I've only been to one, and it was a BUG match. My 9sc and I will be attending another in a week or two. The shooting distances seem to be short enough to allow the sub-compact to compete, but the important fiact is that IDPA allows you to shoot at targets in a non-standard fashion. It's a whole lot different than standing in one lane, taking a good stance and shooting at a single target straight down range.

I have a bit of an anticipation flinch. That went right out the window when I shot the IDPA match. I was more concerned with safe handeling (especially drawing from the holster), aquiring the targets, and getting the gun back on target for the follow-up shot. None of my shots were off low and left. They might have been off due to my poor aim, but that's another matter...

Now comes the debate on if tacticals are better and whatnot. People have made Master with stock 4" guns. if you're comfortable with a SC it would be easier for you to progress with that one than a gun you're not comfortable with. Of course, most people use bigger guns but that doesn't mean you need one. I really don't mean to sound b*tchy, that's not my intention.

As KOL has said IDPA would probably be the best/easiest one to get started with. I have started with IDPA and now have every Sunday off so I can start doing USPSA which I think I may like more as it's more shooting. IDPA is definately a way to cut your teeth though. Around here though it's only once a month as USPSA is every weekend. So IDPA leaves me wanting more, enter USPSA.
