Shot an ICORE match on Sunday

It was a lot of fun.

Only revolver I had other than .22 LR's was a Ruger Super Redhawk 7 1/2" barrel in .44 Mag.

I dragged out the single stage loading press and spent a good part of Saturday afternoon cranking out some powder puff loads using a 240 gr plated lead bullet and minimal amounts of Unique powder. The loading manual said they were supposed to be going 980 fps, but the font sight barely moved when they were fired. One guy asked if I had any powder in the cases or if I was just using a primer to power the bullets. A 240 gr bullet at 1,000 fps would be twice the minimum power factor needed for ICORE.

When I go deer hunting with the SRH I use a Bianchi Cyclone holster in the cross draw position. Couldn't do crossdraw without breaking the 180 so I used the holster strong side. I barely had enough motion in my shoulder to clear that 7 1/2" barrel out of the leather.

I only had a couple of HKS speed loaders for the SRH, but then I remembered I had bought some Maxfire speed loaders, hated them and threw them in the bottom of the holsterbox. Dug threm back out just in case I needed some more rounds. They are just a little faster than loading single rounds. Of the 5 stages we shot only needed more than 18 rounds on 2 of them.

It sounds like our club is going to start shooting more ICORE matches in the spring. I'm going to pick up a decent holster and some more speed loaders and drag the big Ruger out more often.

I've only shot a couple of icore matches. They were fun, The NRA D-1 target places an emphasis on accuracy. fun sport, PF is only 120 and you have multiple divisions to play in.

Unfortunately, we don't have enough people around here to keep revolver only match going.

Discussion at this match came up with a good idea.

They normally set up for USPSA matches on Saturday morning, then shoot the match on Sunday.

For this ICORE match they did setup on Sunday morning and shot as soon as set up was complete.

Plan for next year is to do set up for the USPSA match on Saturday Morning, but use the NRA D-1 targets and make it revolver neutral. Then shoot the ICORE match on Saturday after the set up is complete. After the ICORE match we'll put up the USPSA targets and any additional targets for the stages. Then we'll all come back out on Sunday and shoot USPSA.

The idea is that this will give us an ICORE match every month without too much additional set up. And hopefully will bring more folks out for the set up.

Several of the guys were using the CR Speed holsters. But most of us were shooting our first ICORE match and had whatever we had on hand.

I was using a Bianchi Cyclone.
