"3 GM: Techniques of the Grand Masters" - A Review

For those who don't know, I am a shooting video junky. I either own or have watched nearly all of the DVD on practical shooting. Many are classic, some are helpful, many are junk. As for "3 GM", it's in a league all by itself. And, at the cost equal to 400 rounds of 9mm ammo, it's a bargain.

Let me start out by saying that if you were to pay any one of the three guys in this video to give you two hours of instruction, it would cost you twice as much as what the DVD costs. I know, I am trying to get Max to come to Chicago and gives us a two-day class.

The instructional elements are excellent and the noted steps are clear. The DVD starts with the basics, the foundation of practical shooting, focusing on things like grip, stance, draw and trigger control. Without having the basics mastered, it is tough to go any further. Beyond the basics (disk two), the GMs cover things like drawing the holster from a position OTHER THAN the holster and moving between positions. Who has every taught that before?

Each GM gives you tips on how to master the discussed skill. They detail what you need to practice if you want to improve your skills. The nice part of the video was the consistency of a single point: accuracy. If you are not accurate, you will not excel in practical shooting. Marksmanship is still king, ask TGO.

Finally, my rating. I give it 5 out of 5. It was solid 2+ hours of instructions and I learned several things. I will watch it again and again, and I cannot wait to begin practicing the drills.

Gamers. Buy this DVD!!

OS

+1 This is an EXCELLENT VIDEO. Tons of tips that can utterly change the way you shoot for the better. Saul did an excellent job with this. Good production quality as well.

Buy it. Buy it now!!

Thanks for the review guys. I have been trying to decide on a DVD to buy. Sometimes with so many it is hard to decide on one.

They all have a different takes, so you should find something that makes sense to you.

I would add, it is for ANY shooter. A great video.

I finished watching it today. Certainly found enough things to work on. I was able to glean a little here and there from all three of them. A little pricey though!

This is a great video and it was very good to see the differences in 3 different shooters vs one. Many of these "intructional" videos are from one shooters point of veiw like Matt Burkett's. While I have nothing wrong with Matt's videos, the 3GM video was more encompasing and well thought out than Matt's. Not everyone has an Open gun or a Limited gun. Production is the easiest way to get started in this sport and it was well illustrated by Angus Hobdell. Thanks to Saul Kirsch for making a great video and thanks to Pistol Gear for making a great video available to us!
