Double Taps

Went to the range the other night for a little practice and decided to try some double taps. The first shots were ok, but the second was always about 5 or 6 inches away, not necessarily in the same direction. This is at seven yards. How do you train to bring them closer, and how close should I expect to get.

Control, control, control... either that or shoot slower or faster..

It just takes a bit of practice, really.

I haven't really experimented with them yet. Good question though. Subscribing.

What I found to work is in the split secon before you second shot, aim down and to the left if your shooting righty and down and right if your shooting lefty! Your not actually aiming but it helps compinsate and trains your hold for the 2nd shot!

double taps

So much info so little time. Try shooting with both eyes open, as both shots should be well aimed shots. Try "pinning" the trigger for a better release on the second shot. Grip and stance? What grip and stance are you using. What is your split times,,, are you even using a timer? Have you had any training by someone that can demonstrate how to shoot fast, and well. You dont need to guess on the second shot it can be well placed in well under a quarter of a second at most distances. I really dont like the term "double tap" most people just throw the second shot at the target when trying this, it just doent have to be. Two well aimed shots on target is our goal right? Good luck and good shooting

I tried it once. I shot the metal clip off that was holding my target up.

Aim the second shot also. You should be able to get them as close as you want. Just watch the sights, if you do that you can shoot 5-6 aimed shots in a second and know where they are going also.

I have not had any formal training, just the different training videos that have been posted on this forum. My grip comes from the video on Springer Precision, used to be a cup and saucer shooter. I square my shoulders to the target and focus, with both eyes open, on only the front sight. I try to get the second shot off as soon as the front sight comes back on target, but i think I'm shooting too soon as the majority of the second shots end up high, left and right at about eleven and one o'clock, five or six inches out. What do you mean by pinning the trigger? Hold it back until the next shot? I haven't timed my splits but I will do that next time, but like I said, i try to get it off as soon as the front sight comes back on target.

4-6" off from the initial center shot at 7 yards is not all that bad! It would have put the second round into the bad guy within a 1/2 a second of the first, which is what you're looking to do! Since 7 yards is statisticaly the farthest distance you would most likely have to shoot someone, you might want to do some doubletap practice at 3 yards, which is well over the median engagement range for all LEO shoots. Remember, two 400 FPE bullets within a 1/2 a second equals more than 800 FPE in shock value on a human. Keep up the good work!

( I use 400FPE as an average of most XD rounds. The energy of your load may vary!)
