SoCal XD members
Hey guys,
i just recently got into shooting and finding that indoor ranges are becoming pretty boring. i recently went to Borrow Canyons outdoor range and had a great time. me and three friends got a private range (size ofa football field) for $60 for the entire day and had our own fun. the only bad thing is, my friends aren't into shooting like i am. dont get me wrong, they like shooting (pulling the trigger) where as i like practical shooting (hitting the target under different real life situations). I'm finding that i although everyone here is cool and thinks more like me, most people i run into at the range are complete morons. They like pulling the trigger and taking pictures of each other doing it. So, in search of others like me, i wanted to reach out to the members, specifically the Southern CA members and see if you guys wanted to start a small XD get together and head out to borrow canyon once every 3 months. we can setup a course and shoot to hit the target (double taps and rapid fire exercises). share the ideas discussed on this forum and help each other get to be better shooters. instead of the boring target shooting, we can start out own idpa style non competative events with each of us bringing one target stand and target (steel targets are welcome) and maybe even a timer. I want to get into idpa but i'm a little nervous about it and don't know if i can devote an entire day to it. i thought this type of get together might involve experienced shooters helping newbies like me get my feet wet and also help cut cost. i originally thought of getting all the targets myself but found out how expensive that would be. but if each person at one stand with one target, we might be able to really make it affordable. let me know what you think. it would have to be orgainzed for safety reasons but provided everyone is mature and out to have a good safe time, it could be really fun. thanks thom

I'm interested..
I live in SD. I read about Burrow Canyon, and was already really interested in heading up north and giving it a try. I've got a couple of buddies I've been trying to talk into going up there with me.
I haven't been shooting all that long, but am also interested in getting into IDPA events. My buddies have been shooting longer (neither of them shoot XDs, though...YET). I'll PM you, maybe we can hook up. Pat |

Idpa
There is a nice IDPA match in Piru, CA. It is an outdoor range with five stages. The IDPA match is held on the 4th Saturday of the month. It might be a bit far for you to travel though. Up near Six Flags. Lots of good, smart, and safe shooters to chat with.

Cool...I'll plan to head up there one of these Saturdays. Heck, to me a day at a gun event is bound to be more fun than a day at Six Flags (cheaper, too), and I've made the haul up there for Six Flags. psr |

First of all, I'm going to have to charge you for using my Handle here as the title of your post!
I'm in San Diego as well. IDPA can be a little intimidating at first, but let me tell you, it is such a rush! Once you get into it you'll kick yourself for not starting sooner. Another good sport to look into is steel shooting/matches. It's not nearly as dificult as IDPA and it builds solid shooting, reloading, target engagement and use of cover skills. It's also a little less formal then IDPA and you can shoot just about anything handgun you want. My favorate range is Iron Sites in Oceanside http://www.iron-sights.com/ (unfortunatly it is 45min away from me). They have quite a few military and LEOs shooting there and they usually make pretty good company overall. They shoot steel on Thursday night for $12. Every other week they bring in tactical shotguns for steel as well. If I lived closer I'd be there every Thursday! We guys in SD should meet up there one of these Thursdays and give it a try. It's easy to catch on since you can watch a dozen guys shoot before you if you want. The crew there are all good guys and are pretty supportive if you're screwing up (except for safety issues, which can get you spanked!). You guys up in LA or Inland Empire should look into your local ranges for steel matches as well. I'd love to take a trip north but I'm just too commited to other passions at the moment.
