XD holster in competition

Stand by for a stupid newbie question!

Would the stock holster and mag carrier that came with my 45 ACP be adequate to start with in IDPA or USPSA? I would just like to try it out before spending any money on gear.

Mike

I used the XD Gear holster in my first IDPA match, it works but not the greatest. I went to the Blackhawk CQC Serpa for my holster.
I still use the XD Gear mag holder and it works fine.

Can't help on the USPSA...

Have fun with the matches.

Based on your statement that you would like to try it out before spending any money on gear, I would call the XDGear stuff functionally adequate for USPSA with one caveat:

Depending on the stage setup, what Division you plan on shooting, and number of made up misses, the two spare mags held by the mag carrier may not be enough. If shooting Production or Limited-10, you are limited by the rules to 10 rounds in each magazine at the start signal (in Limited, you can load each mag to full capacity, assuming that it isn't modified beyond the 140mm length rule). While one might think going in that starting a stage with 31 rounds in Production or L-10 should be plenty, there are cases where it isn't. I would recommend 4 mags on the belt at the start signal, which suggests a second mag carrier.

Holsters and mag carriers used in competition largely become a matter of personal preference. Other than the question of whether one dual mag carrier is enough, the stuff that came with your XD45ACP should be good enough to try USPSA and make a decision regarding where you go from there.

as usual use, what you got to start and play with other's toys to see what you like. I'm a comp-tac fan as it goes both way pretty easy.
