Good luck.

I still remember my first match, boy was I nervous but after the first few stages I was fine. It takes awhile to learn the proper procedures.
Everyone at the match was really helpful and supportive. It was really fun and you'll learn good gun handling skills.
I wish IDPA was around when I first started shooting 30 years ago.

Good shooting.

I thought the XD was in the ESP division... oh well. Anyway, it is a ton of fun to shoot IDPA. The one thing that my mentor taught me my first time out was not to pay any attention to the guys at the top of the class. They shoot REAL fast and if you try to emulate them out of the gate you will just frustrate yourself. Shoot first for accuracy. As you develop your competition sight acquisition speed will come later...

XD45 being 45 auto and single action puts it in CDP.

Hmmm...I was under the impression that the XD45 could be used in both CDP and ESP. CDP is 45 only and ESP is 9mm or larger. I'm certainly no IDPA expert, but it seems feasible.

the XD 45 is ESP...According to the RO's and Match Director's. but as a 45 they could let you in CDP also. I've only been to two IDPA event's, and I'll be participating in a "big one (regional) soon, I've read the rules book, but I am being told that the XD's (45 & 9mm) are ESP....

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can shoot it in either or but I would go with CDP as the times are slower than ESP. ESP is like OPEN for IDPA only not no where near the fun parts . What I think is funny is USPSA list the XD as double action and IDPA list it as single action. I'm not going to open that debate but its just funny that those 2 big leagues are on diffrent boats lol...then again they are on most things
