XD: Which division for IPSC?

I am thinking about trying ipsc with my XD tactical 40. What classification would I shoot in? Would I have a choice or only one option? Thank you.

You could shoot 3 divisions: Production, Limited 10, and Limited. Of those Limited would probably not be a good choice because of the limitation the XD has on number of rounds it can hold. Both Lim10 and Production only allow 10 rounds, so you're good there.

Production scores MINOR regardless of caliber being shot. The XD40 would score MAJOR if shot in LIM10.

That being said, if I were shooting the XD40 I would probably try the LIM10 division first. If for some reason I didn't feel competitive then I would try Production.

Personally I shoot the XD9 in Production but have considered giving Limited a try even though I'm still at a disadvantage with 16 rounds and shooting MINOR scoring.

Give one of them a try. You'll have a great time either way.

Your can use your XD for Production division. It is very popular there. It can also used in Limited 10. See my links for A LOT more info.

Sorry, I got that wrong. Checking the website, the club is USPSA. Sorry for the error.

For USPSA, your strong suits using the .40 Tactical are Production and Limited 10. See my links for more info.

I shoot Limited-10 with my XD-40 Tactical. There is a growing number of accessories that can make the XD-40 into a very competitive L-10 gun. There are very good trigger jobs available from at least three reputable sources I can think of (Canyon Creek, Novak Handgun Outlet and Loves2Shoot over at Brian Enos Forums). There are magazine wells from at least three sources (Barsto, Maglock, NHO) . Then A titanium or solid stainless steel guide rod (SA, Don's, Wolf) and a selection of recoil springs to tune the recoil to the shooter. Extended magazine release from many makers not to mention a wide variety of sights. I believe at least one company is making a race holster compatible with the XD and there are several good race magazine holders. Then there is always the liberal application of grip tape or even having someone stipple your grip. If you like you can really sink a moderately nice junk of change and a lot of fun time into an XD-40 and come out with a reasonably price and competitive L-10 gun. Not to mention all the fun of putting all the gadgets together to make you rig.

My very cheap L-10 rig

$0.02
