Training
Anybody "train" for these events. New heart monitor arrived yesterday. I'll see how "relaxed" I'm not! I'll see if my training the last week has been a joke or not?

Training to run 30 feet doesn't do you much good if you can't hit the targets. If you are in good shape work on stoping and starting. Moving from one spot to the other really fast, and on crappy terain. Being able to stop on a dime and get going again helps, but as Robbie Leatham says, "These young kids can run rings around me but they're just not shooting any better."

You need to head on over to www.brianenos.com and see what they have to say about this subject.

Last time at Boulder Rifle Club there were a couple biathalon shooters. One guy would run a bit to get the heart rate up before he shot. The point is not to be able to do a 40 yard dash in under 5 seconds, but to lower the heart rate when you do need to move and to move with speed and agility. If I could save the top "money" shooters .2 seconds per stage what do you think they would say (I took second in a race once by .016 seconds - should have cleaned that bug off the windshield)?

Heart rate
I tried out the new heart rate monitor. Boy have I been dogging it. I was sure I was hitting mid 150's but I think it was closer to mid 140's now!
Maximum BPM for me is 164 (using 220 minus age method). I hit 154 today with an average of 139 for the workout. Next USPSA event is Sun. My goal is to not DQ and not finish last overall. I have certainly been shooting this past month so I will see if it helps.

Basically,
just being in decent pysical shape is good for USPSA..you don't need to be a star athlete. What matters most is conservation of motion, the ability to get in and out of shooting positions quickly, and being accurate. Aside from that, having repeatable shooting skills..i.e. good reloads, good consistent draws, good sight picture, are the basics for the game.
