production class questions

It's faster for me to ask this here than wade through pages of a rule book since you all know it by heart. What exactally can be done/modded to a production gun and still be legal? Lets use our favorite gun, an XD, as an example. Can the trigger be modded at all? the grip? the finish? the sights? the mags?

I believe IDPA and USPSA have different rules. For that matter, IPSC and USPSA have different rules.

For production in USPSA you can do internal mods. This would include a DGR and/or trigger job.

It is nicely spelled out here:

http://www.uspsa.org/

Make sure you look at the USPSA rules.

I just downloaded both rule books. For some reason I thought they were the same. My bad. Looks like trigger mods are premissable so long as the 1st shot is greater than or equal to 5# of trigger pull in USPSA, I don't recall the IPSA saying anything about poundage for modded trigger pull. It's odd though, the USPSA book said trigger work is okay, but goes on to say something about how you can't change internal parts at all unless it was availible from the factory / an option. So... does custom shop work done to a factory gun count as an option? So vague, these rules!

You read the wrong rulebook. USPSA Production.

Two things different I noticed right away between IPSC and USPSA - Mag capacity and trigger pull.

As long as you don't stipple the frame or install a magwell, install a big button mag release, and keep the sights notch and post, you are fine in Production.

An easy way to look at it is like this. Buy the tactical or service model of your choice. Get a good trigger job. And your done. That alone is a race ready XD.

...it's all good! If your not using a XD, hopefully it's a 'G' gun. Same thing applies. Seriously, just have at least 4 mags (5 is best), a solid gun belt, a couple double mag holders, something equal to or better than an Uncle Mikes kydex holster and your off to the races. Oh yeah bring ammo.
