That would be fun just to watch. Too bad it's hand held flashlights only though.

Yah, I know but it's IDPA rules.

It does. Not everyone has a rail on their gun. Revolvers being one of them.

If you get the chance, go do the night match. I shot my first one a couple of weeks ago in Bowling Green Ky. It was a blast.

Does the IDPA rulebook mention weapon lights? We have a yearly night match and the 2 main categories are 'weapon mounted' and 'hand held.' Most of my pistols have rails but I always shoot hand held mostly because a light has not been high on my list.

Quote from the rule book.

While IDPA realizes that lights mounted on guns are very useful for self-defense, we would have the same situation with mounted lights that we do with ported pistols if they were allowed.

Mounted lights would become another "necessary modification" to be competitive and that is not the purpose of IDPA. Also, the mounting of weapons lights under the stress of competition imposes a dangerous safety hazard.

I forgot about that part. Our night match has been going on for years and it's a lot of fun. The match director decided he would have a hand held division and a mounted division. We get some LE shooters and others whose home pistols have lights mounted and these groups wanted to shoot the match. While I'm all for preventing an "equipment race" I think it's a good idea.
