Shooting an XD in IDPA

So I want to shoot an XD service model for IDPA and it sounds like I wont be able to shoot in the same class with my buddies that have Glocks or M&P's. Can anyone give me some clarification/advice??

xd's are ESP,,glocks and m&p's are SSP...You can still shoot together and compare times. points down and all..I believe they can shoot ESP if they want with theres but not sure about the other way around. should check rule book if you got it. My shooting partner shoots SSP and is thinking of switching to ESP with his m&p because his class is stacked and mine is pretty thin. Hopefully this helped a little bit.

It really won't be an issue until you are ready for the Nationals. Shooting against $3000 STI ESP legal raceguns might burn you then.

so In that class I will compete with the 9MM 1911 guns correct? Is there any advantage for me to be shooting a 1911 in that case or can you be just as good with either gun? (im not overly experienced with the IDPA style shooting so sorry if any of this is elementary or dumb)

I did exactly that. Got an M&P to shoot SSP. Not so sure it was my best option. Now I'm thinking... Am I shooting IDPA to win nationals or am I shooting to get better under stress?!... I am starting to think I carry an XD should shoot XD in competition.

I am really just in it at this point to learn from guys that are better than me and try to see how far I can get. Id like to shoot both divisions eventually but I figure I should probably stick to one at a time until I can further hone my skills. Im only 19 years old and still somewhat new to pistol shooting at a competitive level so im thinking I will go with the XD and see what I can do. Do you see many people shooting XD's in IDPA?

The only advantage you will have with shooting a 9 1911 gun is if you wanted to switch to CDP (45 only) you wont have to train with a different style gun so to speak, because the economics are the same just a different caliber. Which IMO would be the way to go. It's hard sometimes for one to use say, X gun in a division then want to shot in another division and have to shoot with a Y gun. This is what I'm going through right now. I shoot a XDm 9 in ESP but want to shoot my TRP 1911 in CDP sometime next year.

ETA= The M&P 9pro will work in SSP and ESP. Another gun to get so you can shoot a different class with the same gun.

You are starting at a good age. I wish I started at 19. I'm 29 and I just got into it in Febuary of this year. All you have to do it practice alot and things will work out for you depending on how much you want it. Set a goal and stick to it. Some places you can go to get more info or help are
IDPAforum - Message Board - Yuku and Brian Enos's Forums... Maku mozo! (Powered by Invision Power Board) which is more a USPSA site but has a IDPA section and still helps out alot with what to work on. Yes there are alot of XD's in IDPA.
