In this sport, it's the Indian, not the arrow. David Olhasso has beaten 1911 shooters to win the IDPA Nationals in CDP with an XD45. Heck even in Sevigny has won Production AND Limited using a "plastic" Glock.

If you want to win, pick the gun that you shoot well. For me, it's an XD Tactical.

I loved shooting my first IDPA with my XD40 service. It is alot to take in at first, but IMO you are not a competent gun owner until you've competed in such an event. It simulates as close to a real stressful situation as I ever want to be, and forces you to do things you may skip at the range.

-reloading quickly
-shooting while moving in all directions
-swapping unexhausted mags to aid future maneuvers, (just like in video games)
-addressing multpile threats using the "slice the pie" technique

all things I never considered practicing before IDPA, and all clearly more important than your equipment choice. shoot what you like/carry. there is no reason that your scores can't be compared with your buddies in different divisions, if not officially, bet lunch or a beer.

The reason I use an XD45 for IDPA is I carry a sc9. Use your XD, and have fun.
