What is the logic of having the XD in the ESP class and not SSP?

This is because SA market it as a Single action. There has been alot of discussion on this in other forums.

Just got an XD9 for this exact reason last week. Hope to get to a local practice and possibly a match by the end of the month. In it to shoot better under stress and also practice some of the techniques learned from my defensive class this summer. Without having a private place to shoot this is the only option i have in my area to draw from a holster, shoot on the move, from cover etc.

I haven't shot IDPA yet, need a good holster. But I shoot USPSA and use the rig I would use in a SHTF sit. And it has greatly improved my accuracy and handling. Use in comp what you will use in real life. Become proficient with it.

I've shot my XD .40 SVC in IDPA for two years. I do OK but notice the second shot goes astray occasionally. At a training class I noticed almost all the other people were using 9mm. I have borrowed a XD 9 from a friend and will use that in the next match. I'm hoping the difference will make for a better scores for IDPA but will still stay with the exact same gun for CCW.

IDPA is not a "gun game" like USPSA (IPSC)... the equipment you choose is only a small factor in your success. Learing to shoot on the move, from behind cover, and from possitions not normally practiced will make a much bigger difference in your overall score... than whether you shoot a Glock or an XD.
For what it's worth... the guys that are currently ruling the roost in ESP at our local matches pretty much all shoot XDs... VR4 (Victor) won the Washington state title in MM/ESP with an XD9 Tac back in August... I won the Washtington state title in SS/ESP shooting an XD9 Service at the same match (and beat all the Experts to boot). I think the XD is probably the very best pistol to get into IDPA with... it comes will all the stuff to go shoot your first match (holster, mag carrier)... it's the most reliable weapon I've seen in IDPA... and they're just flat easy to shoot. I've been shooting IDPA for well less than a year... and am now shooting my XD in ESP as an "expert"... I know VR4 has also been shooting less than a year... and he's made SS with his. If you prefer the XD over the Glock and M&P... then buy one and shoot the crap out of it at your local IDPA matches. If you want to compete against your friends... then bet lunch on total score... and compare at the end. Just because you aren't in the same division... doesn't mean you can't "compete" with each other.
