IDPA is not the only "game" in town

I don't want people to think I am trying to revive the old IDPA vs IPSC debate, because that is not my goal with this thread. I am not trying to piss anyone off, or get in any heated exchange.(I am no troll)

I have a huge amount of respect for people that shoot IDPA. We have a bunch of IDPA guys that regularly shoot in the Production Division at the Armored Fire IPSC matches. They are so good that I don't have any hope of out shooting them. IDPA has always been a great game that is fun, and attempts to be as realistic as possible.

With that being said everyone that is sick of the BS that is happening right now with the IDPA rule book should look at shooting IPSC. Don't listen to all the people that like to talk smack about IPSC shooting. It is not dominated by "race guns". Yes there are fancy guns, and yes they will almost always shoot a stage faster then your production gun. The bottom line is it doesn't matter!! You are not competing against the Open guns you are competing against the other guys shooting production guns!! The last two matches I shot there were around 45 people shooting, 15 of those shooters were shooting Production division. That means that any IDPA shooter would fit in perfectly with around a third of the shooters.

In IPSC we have very little rules about what kind of holster or mag pouches you can use. Here is the only real restriction we have on holster types in our production division.

Quote:
Competition holsters of the race gun type specifically not allowed. For clarification:
ALL retention features of the holster MUST be used. All holsters must fully
cover the trigger when the pistol is holstered. The front of holsters for autos
may be cut no lower than ¼-inch below the ejection port. Revolver holsters
may be cut no lower than half way down the cylinder.
A very large percentage of the guys I shoot with are using Bladetech, Uncle Mikes, and Fobus gear. I personally use a SA XD40, Fobus holster, and Uncle Mikes double mag pouches.

In closing if you feel like you are getting the shaft then it might be time to start looking for another game to compete in. Don’t listen to all of the people that like to bash IPSC competitions. We are out there trying to have a good time just like the IDPA guys. Luckily for us we are able to shoot in a production division that doesn’t have all that many rules. After observing how good the IDPA shooters are, my buddy and I were planning on shooting IDPA matches several times this summer. Now that my plastic gear is out, I doubt I will spend the money for all new equipment. Seeing this type of discourse among fellow shooters is disturbing and unfortunate. I hope the IDPA HQ listens to their members.

I agree there are different clasifications if you shoot IDPA then production will suite you just fine. And local to me anyway USPSA seems more relaxed and enjoyable while IDPA seemed like work. I am still going to shoot IDPA with whatever I show up with and contnue to use it as practice for production USPSA.
