I did not go with XD for idpa - only because it pushes you to esp and I wanted to shoot ssp. So if you're not shooting ssp - I say it would make a fine idpa pistol.

Good Luck

Could you explain to one who doesn't compete why XDs don't qualify for ssp? I looked up the idpa rulebook and couldn't figure it out. Thanks.

The Glock in not DA either, it is neither SA or DA (try pull the trigger more than once and it doesn't do anything after the first attempt, a true D/A will repeatedly hit the firing pin), it is striker fired and IDPA has not directly addressed that category of pistols, but I would think they will eventually have to do so, as their are more an more of them on the market.

As far as to address the original question, I think that had more to do with marketing than pistol function, but that is my guess. END QUOTE"

A friend of mine uses the XD9 TAC and yes it fit's the IDPA box. You will be in ESP with that gun. I will be getting the M&P 9 PRO for SSP.

I used an XD9tac for quite while in IDPA ESP til my girl started using it as her comp gun. It works very well for that purpose and is very competitive. I now use an M&P9 for both IDPA and USPSA. I think you will be just fine with it. You will not be at a disadvantage. There are several good threads on the XD for IDPA competition here. Some people perfer the 4in XD because the 5in model is a little nose heavy. keep us updated as to what you choose!

Would that be because you have to rack the slide to **** the striker? The IDPA rulebook specifically mentions Glocks under the SSP specs, which suggests Glocks qualify for SSP. Don't you have to rack the slide to **** a Glock? Thanks for un-confusing me.
