First IDPA Classifier with the XD9...

Shot my first ever IDPA classifier tonight... I've shot two matches and I'm absolutely hooked, so I figured it was time to get an official class.

I shot the following times:
Stage 1: 33.11 (4 down) for 35.11 total
Stage 2: 28.93 (6 down) for 31.93 total
Stage 3: 43.59 (31 down... that 20 yard stuff is tough!) for 59.09 total
Total Score: 126.13 so that's an ESP SharpShooter!!! (138.18-108.5)

I was pretty stoked to say the least...

I shoot the 4" XD in 9mm, with a PRP trigger kit installed, and I modified from the standard 3-dot sights... to a set-up that's similar to Heine "straight 8's", except the bottom is a triangle rather than a dot... just put the dot on the tip of the triangle and pull the trigger. I also just used the XD gear that came with the pistol... it ain't fancy... but it works very well for IDPA. I'm truly amazed how well these XDs shoot... I can't imagine a more user friendly (and bad guy unfriendly) pistol.

Congrats......I've shot many classifier's since 2004 and am still a novice. That trigger control kills me every time.

I think the trigger job made a big difference... I could tell the difference from my last match when I was shooting the stock trigger. The sights made the biggest difference though... I didn't have to align the rear sight... just put the dot on the triangle and BANG.

Shot it again on Sunday... shot a 129... with a procedural (3 seconds) on stage 3 for dropping a magazine (I tried to retain it... but fumbled like Ernest Byner on the Bronco's 2-yard line). I actually shot the first two stages about 5 seconds faster... but the peanalty and another shoddy reload on stage 3 ate my lunch.

I also got to watch a bunch of different guys shoot it... mostly CDP... but a couple revolver guys and one dude shooting a Glock. The guy shooting the Block 19 is a quality shooter... expert in CDP and ESP... but couldn't hit squat with that 19... seriously... he shot about 20 down on the first stage. He bought the gun Saturday... shot the classifier with it on Sunday (Classified MM with it though)... and I saw it for sale in the classifieds on Monday... Ahhhhh, Glocks.
