Is anyone using the XDM 40 for USPSA Limited division. I see that Canyon creek has some on their site but cannot find anyone reporting as to use and effectiveness. I am an XD fan and using both 5" tactical and XDM 9 is production. Both work well and other than the TFO sight falling out in mid match there have been no problems with either. Will stay with that division this year as this is my first year and I still have plenty to learn on the basics. If I go to limited would like to stay with XD if possible. Most of the limited folks now are using 1911's - STI and SV guns and an occasional Glock 35. All the XD's are in production or at the most Limited 10 without the extended mags and stuff. Would really apapreciate a report.
Thanks

I do not use mine (yet) but i plan to. I plan on adding some 170mm mag extensions and some type of optic. I was thinking about getting a DOCTOR red dot sight. I have and extended mag release and a full springer trigger kit that i have to install. I was also going to buy an aftermarket ported barrel. Then a magwell and that should be it.

Then you would be in open class, not limited. Limited means open sights and 140mm mags.

I shoot my XDM 9 in Limited class. I use standard length mags, and the gun is stock except for the PRP trigger. In my local matches, we have about 40 competitors in limited. Most are shooting 1911 Hi Cap guns in major with about every mod you can have for limited class. Out of 40 competitors, I usually place 5th or 6th. I am sure I could even do better with new sights, magwell, and alot more practice! Your skills as a shooter makes all the difference though. We have a guy that shoots a Glock 35 in production class that beats most of our limited shooters, and can run with open class, absolutely amazing to watch him shoot!
The one thing that I don't like is the fact I am Minor in Limited class. If I had known I was going to be using it in limited class, I would have bought the XDM 40.
Either way, I have a blast with it and stay fairly competitive. I do it for the fun factor, not for competition though.

It matters not if you shoot minor or major as long as you shoot all "A"s

I had my XDM 40 modified for Limited and I'm having a ball with it. I had Springer Precision do the carry trigger (5#) and remove the additional pieces that let you remove the slide without dropping the striker. Had him do the internal cleanup and polish, install True Glo Tritium sights, his extended mag release and grip tape. I also got the Arreondo mag extensions from Springer that make it 20+1. Added a PistolGear pin on magwell that's rock solid and went to play.
I've shot SS 45 for the last couple of years and to have 20 rounds available is a whole new game. Biggest issue I've had is getting used to the extended mag release. I've dropped the mag twice unintentionally. Bummer!
To add to the story I got an E&K FireDragon Conversion barrel in 9mm along with a Springer guide rod that allows use of 1911 recoil springs. I have diabetic neuropathy in my hands and to tell the truth, it's kind of a bitch to get the 1911 springs stuffed in. I'm currently pursuing a factory guide rod and spring for the 9mm setup - much less stuffing involved. Another plus is that the Arreondo mag extensions also fit the XDM 9mm mags. Gives 23+1!
The upshot of all this is that I have one platform with a superior trigger that lets me shoot Limited or Limited 10 in Major or Minor depending on what ammo I can get my hands on. If 9 or 40 isn't available I can always go to my 1911 in 45. Here's the final kicker. I picked up an optical mount that bolts to the Picatinney rail on the XDM dust cover. Mount a red dot optical and I can shoot OPEN! I don't expect to beat the $3K + race gun guys but you never know. On any given day, etc.
All for about $1300. I don't know of any other gun that can do that. I my XDM.

Hey - thank you all. I sort of had my mind made up for the most part maybe (how's that for a strong statement), but it is good to get a second, third and forth oppinion. Good deal.
Won't be for a few months but will talk with Canyon or Springer and give them the total job since I don't have the 40 I want to use anyway. That way it will be game ready from the start.

As the old saying goes.... Its the Indian, not the Arrow that gets the job done. Shoot your XDm in the Limited Division and have fun. But always know that what you shoot is rarely what is holding back a solid performance.
