Sounds like Wally is making a pretty profit. Doubt they would give that up without a fight. Not "just because".

They aren't losing money on the deal. And they sell more than anyone else, which means they purchase for less then anyone else. They don't buy from Federal or Winchester for the same price as your LGS...

My local Walmart finally got a few rounds of 9mm in today. It was Federal 115 grain JHP. $15.95 for 20 rounds. It was gone in 30 minutes.

My local WalMart has more 30-06 ammo then I've seen in one spot for along time, as well as 30-30 and some 270, and two lonely boxes of .45 ....

I talked to the local Walmart manager today and he said ..... they had a meeting yesterday about the rumors going around that Walmart was going to stop selling ammo. The rumor is false and they have NO intentions of stopping the sale of ammo or rifles it's just difficult to get both because of the panic buying. lots of .40, no .9 or .380

Well of course. But, "a pretty profit" and "not buying it for the same price" are two different things. They buy it low so they can sell it low. The LGS doesn't buy enough to pay low enough so they charge more for it. All fair. Good business.
I did notice that Walmart raised the .223 TulAmmo up from $4.97/20 to $5.27. I am sure it based on supply and demand.

Two different things that equal a pretty profit. That's the point. Say per round, Walmart makes even only 1˘ profit, per round. If they sell 250k rounds (not boxes) per day (which is a conservative estimate IMO) which is 5,000 boxes of 50r boxes nation wide, that's a $2,500 profit, per day, x30 days in a month (avg), that's $75,000 a month profit. As a corporation that's a drop in the bucket. And that is assuming they make 50˘ (profit) off of a 50r pack of 9mm (or other). Add one penny more per round... Two penny's more. 3˘ per round?
Not trying to argue I'm just saying that purchasing power is king and my guess is that Wally is not providing ammo as a humanitarian effort. It's a solid money maker... That they aren't going to just give up.
