Coolest survival tool/gadget under $100?
I am looking to buy something cool but I don't know what yet. I am working on a BoB and would like to add a cool gadget. So what is a cool gadget I should get under $100?
Also, no knives or multi-tools as I already have them. Lets not make this a thread about knives but cool survival stuff under $100 like tents, water purifiers, etc.

Gerber LMF Sorry, it's the best gadget I have under $100. I can make one heck of a shelter with it!
Outside of that...a Sawyer Water purifier. Filter a million gallons of water and most go down to .1 microns. The squeeze bottle one works great, but I hear the bags wear out. It fits most water bottles though.

May I suggest something useful?
MSR® AutoFlow™ Gravity Filter
I use it backpacking and it's more useful than a handheld pump system. Much less energy to use (no pumping), filters fast, can act as a shower or water reservoir, lighter, and packs smaller. The only downfall, is no filtering on the go. It can be a hassle to unravel it, and set it up. Not difficult, just time consuming.

How many gallons does that filter compared to the Sawyer? I know those can be rigged on a pack to filter as you walk. I'm sure the MSR could be hung to do the same.

There's no need to filter as you walk. It holds 4L and filters it all in a few minutes. By the time you sinched it to your pack and got on your way, it would be done filtering. Filter life is about 400 gallons with regular field maintenance. You do need a steripen or something if you're in a virus prone area.
PROTIP: search backpacking gear and brands when looking at survival/bugout stuff. Backpacking and bugging out are one in the same. Backpacking gear is made to be durable, lightweight, and functional. Not everything has to be military surplus kind of stuff.

we love our little Eton solar/crank radio which also has a nice led light and can charge a cell phone. The NOAA weather band comes in nicely along with AM/FM. Bout $30 on Amazon

Oh, you said the downside was no filtering on the go, I didn't understand what you meant. Seems like a really fast one. Is that why you would go with that over the Sawyer? I know the Sawyer does a million gallons, but I've heard filtration can be slow.

As far as most essential to survival I like this water filter:
MSR MiniWorks EX Water Filter - Free Shipping at REI.com
With enough left over to get a Nalgene bottle to attach.
I plan to get a Sawyer gravity filter before long though because this thing makes you work for your water!
As far as still very useful for survival but also just a cool piece of gear:
Leatherman Skeletool CX Multitool - Free Shipping at REI.com
The Skeletool have just what I need in a multi-tool and nothing I don't. Plus lets face it, it just looks cool which is important in any survival situation.
