Just some food for thought would it be better to Carry a .40S&W considering the 450 million round purchase of .40S&W by the Department of Homeland Security.. hence increasing the possibility of stocking up in the field rather than having to secure a huge ammo cache.... or should the individual stick to a 9mm and hope for the best... if SHTF... kinds sucks I have an XDM9... makes me wanna get the .40 to convert if needed.... Any thoughts?

You funny man....

So, you think it's going to be better to raid the department of homeland security to get your ammo AFTER the S hits the fan than to simply buy your own bullets? Really?

Good luck with that....

We are issued 6 mags. If you need more than 180 rounds your in a bad situation for a mission. To be honest if your shooting more than 2 mags your in a bad situation.

If your talking PAW...if you have a FOB than you want as much as possible. There is no limiting amount. Seriously...load up as you can.
Juzt got done reading "Lone Survivor". True story by Marcus Lutrell of SEAL team 10 in afghanistan. Four man team each had a loadout of 13 or 14 mags for their M4's. Although three of them parished in the 2 hour fight they held of several hundred Taliban fighters even though they were purely defensive trapped on a cliff side. Awsome read.

Semper fi to ALL my brothers in arms.

He said nothing about raiding the Department of Homeland Defense. He talking about scavenging it of the "battlefield" assuming DHS is the enemy. Honestly in a shtf situation, your best bet is to avoid contact so BYOA.

Either way, it's not sounding like the plan I would want to follow!

no doubt I agree... going head to head wasn't my plan but keep in mind if SHTF..... your local Walmart wont exactly be selling your ammo of choice.... If S really HTF.. I am talking mass chaos.. therefore consider the ability to drop a 9mm conversion barrel and have the ability between .40 and 9mm.. without having to carry two guns.. Besides no one knows how S will HTF...

u better not have much need of pistol ammo, post shtf. Better have a real fighting rifle and do most of your shooting with a .22lr. The noise means that you won't be practicing, regardless of how much ammo you have. Each blast is likely to call in your killers. Get a lw, compact 223 carbine, and keep it on the assault sling, or pay the consequences of your ignorance.

Currently, I have the mags to carry 311 rounds of .223 for the AR and 51 rounds of 9mm for the XD. So I guess that's what I would take. I have more ammo laying around at home, but it isn't in an easily carried container. I could bag up and take another couple hundred of each in a back pack if need be. But If I need more than 300 rounds of .223 at a time, I may have bigger issues that what can I carry.
