I agree with FNEG, A bow and arrow will make a better hunting device than a firearm - learning to make a snare or trap would work well too. Unless you can get a suppressor, save and purchase ammo for defense purposes first then some for the range. I would rather have more than necessary than not enough, but the quantity is a much as possible.

just my 2 cents.

Personally I believe when it comes to ammo you should buy it always in quantity as you get the best deal. Keeping a shtf amount really is not something you can account for. I am in grunt the USMC. We are issued 6 mags. If you need more than 180 rounds your in a bad situation for a mission. To be honest if your shooting more than 2 mags your in a bad situation.

My bow isn't the easiest on arrows and arrowheads. its cheaper to shoot some high end exotic round than to hunt with a bow an arrow for me.

True, but you have a group of equally awesome guys that have your back. All we have is our inflated egos, pudgy bellies and ammo to keep us company in a fire fight.

Tell me about it! Costs $12 to $20 to lose the arrow. Heck, hitting the deer can cause the arrow to fracture and be too dangerous to launch. Graphite is great, but no where near as durable as the old fiberglass we used in the stone ages.

Yeah at 50 dollars each they are pricey but I also have 300 or so Walmart end of the season 80% off shafts I got for a Buck apiece. Might not shoot the tightest group but I can still hit an apple at 15 yards. Kinda like when I go deer hunting it is crazy in TN how much random wildlife will get within 15 yards of you.

My wife was mentioning her interest in getting into archery. I mentioned how .22lr rifles and ammo were cheaper when compared to quality bows and arrows. Still, the skill needed to shoot an arrow accurately would be neat to develop.

I find it easier than shooting a pistol, however my bow is enough of a monster that I don't have to take drop into account much.

If she wants to do it, get a used set-up. Tons of people try then drop it.
