Got it and spent all day Saturday detailing the outside. Spent Sunday afternoon replacing fuel pump unexpectantly - but for 163,000 miles it is in awesome shape otherwise.
On a side note, while under it Sunday, noticed that suspension bushings are going to need to be replaced and I had already been planning on replacing bushings, bearings, etc piece by piece as a preventative measure.
My question is, would like to add a little bit of lift (1" -2", maybe 3") but honestly, do not know where to begin. I love to research a new project so already scouring forums. The wagon currently has 30x9.5x15, and not really wanting to change them.
Any other suggestions of things I can do to toughen it up while still keeping it daily driver simplicity?

Hmm... Is this just an escape from your city or location vehicle ? Or something you plan on using for a while after the apocalypse or whatever you are expecting ?
If civilization ends, the roads in my area wouldn't last long because of weather. Judging by how bad they are after every winter, I'm betting within a couple years they would be pretty hard to navigate. Not to mention gas doesn't really have that good of a shelf life, so it will disappear pretty quick.
Of course most vehicles will burn alcohol pretty readily. You could make that from just about anything with a still. And as far as damaging the rings etc.... well who cares really ? It's the end of the world, there will be cars sitting around everywhere, lol.
Oh well... back to the original topic. I reckon that vehicle looks tough enough to get ya outa dodge and to the place where you've made long term vehicle preparations. Like maybe a couple horses.

I'd probably replace the OEM springs with something with a little more arch since you are tearing into it anyways and the OEM springs are so soft they often don't last.
If for some reason you need a new rear axle, I think the Dana 44 from the back of a Nissan Xterra is suppose to be pretty close to the same size and even has the correct bolt pattern, not to mention stronger than what you have.

+1 Being a carpenter, the last thing i do at the end of the day is come home and want to work on the house. Not that it's in disrepair, but there's always plenty of little crapola fixes I COULD be doing. Nope.
