a semi auto .22lr you can have around and its not intrusive. a 25 round 10/22 mag is half the physical size of a 30 round AK or AR mag. really I think someone *could* have a 10/22 or similar with them at all times and not be encumbered. worse comes to worse you can fight with a .22lr. if you have to.
I see my 10/22 as my every day all arounder and everything else would be "as needed"
if anyone has any thoughts on why I should or shouldn't have a .22 rifle as my intended EDC I would be open to input.

if your everyday use would include taking small game as you see it, then a 22 would be perfect. If you are going armed solely for the purpose of SD, then an AR or AK would be better. Another plus for a 22 is it will make you look less aggressive to others while not looking like you'd be easy prey either. one thing I'd watch out for with a 10-22 is they tend to be heavier than others. I'd probably carry one with the stock mag in and have a 25 rounder or 2 with me.

that's generally my plan. my 10/22 has the composite stock and is lighter than my AK.
besides I hear a .22lr will take larger game with good shot placement. a .22lr cracks but has no where near the report of a larger center fire.
even if that were legal I wouldn't go around trying to do it unless circumstances were bad like SHTF.

I think If I was in an all out survival situation and on the move and based on what I would have at the time. I would carry a smaller pocket sized pistol with 100 rounds, my XDm 5.25 9mm + 100 rounds and mags full, AR-15 + 200 rounds and my CMMG 22lr conversion bolt + 500 rounds. If I was bugging in my round counts would be a lot higher and there would be a shotgun in there.

I would have to say
Remington 870 Tactical
Ruger 10/22
Colt AR
XD45
Ruger mark III
As far as ammo..it would depend on if I'm bugging out or in, if I'm bugging in I have plenty of ammo for each gun. If I were bugging out it would also depend on the amount of people in my group. I would say min of 100 rounds plus full mags for each weapon.

SHTF is such a broad spectrum, here's my list for all areas, some acquired some I'm waiting on.
AR-15, extra BCG
22. lr, I'm working on getting a 10/22. Currently have a .22WMR bolt gun that would suffice if it SHTF right now.
Xd 45 service, 1911 as back up.
Remington 870 12 ga for hunting bugging in defense.
Looking for a 30 cal rifle, either ruger scout rifle or mini 30.
I think a long barrel .22 revolver would be a good choice for hunting too.
Depending on the scenario there will either be tons of guns laying around with bodies, or there will be no guns or ammo in sight. So I will continue to stock up while I have the cash flow.

What ever is in our collection...but i would start with the following:
Assault rifle- AR15-mini 14-SKS or something like it
.22 rifle- ruger 10/22 or something like it
.22 pistol- ruger 22/45- ruger mark III- browning buckmark
shotgun- 12 gauge or any gauge you want
Hunting rifle- .270 or 30/06 common caliber is best
Side arm- XDM 9mm or caliber of your choice
and lots of ammo..

pepper spray someone in a "non lethal occasion" and have them come back better prepared for the new and improved "lethal occasion" ?

I agree 100%. If we're talking shtf situation then there won't be many non lethal inter actions. I for one won't be taking prisoners and don't want someone whom I just pissed off coming back for another try as I would assume he came at me in the first place to start the encounter. That's just the way it would be!
