What comes first... the ammo or the gun?
Didn't know where to put this one, forgive me if you think it belongs elsewheres....
I don't currently have an AR, but plan on buying one for my next gun, that being said, should I start buying ammo now or wait until I have the gun? I'm seeing some good deals on .223/5.56 ammo (and other calibers too) and was thinking of stocking up now while the deals are around. In the case of getting the ammo, and not the gun, i figure I'll have some good bartering ammo if anything.
Should I put the ammo money towards the gun itself first...?
Many options/variables to consider, what do ya think?

Get the rifle first what if you got a bunch of ammo and then you change your mine about the AR what are you going to do with the ammo.

If you are certain what caliber you are building go ahead and take advantage of good ammo deals.

This right here. Even if you don't get one you could get a mini 14 or ak that shoots 223.

I have purchase a total of 1400 rounds for my soon to arrive AR. I am building it as we speak. (type lol). I got a great deal on 500 round ammo packs and then added a few 100 round boxes of federal. I really does not matter as long as you actually get the AR lol. If money is tight then get the AR first. Ammo is as good as a paper weight if you have no gun to shoot it out of. So get the gun first. Then buy what ammo you can.

I just had someone hand me 240 rounds of R1M1 South African 7.62 NATO. I have wanted a .308 rifle, but now I have an excuse. Just have to decide between bolt or M1A.

It would have to be an absolutely screaming deal before I'd even consider it, and I haven't seen any of those in 5.56 or 223 lately.
Mainly, I am always looking for a deal on an alternate gun, right up until the last minute. In general I wont even buy in bulk (again) before I have tried that specific ammo out in my gun. I picked up a K of soft-points that my rifle mangles the tips of while chambering. It always goes bang, isn't too dirty, and always cycles, but accuracy isn't the greatest. I blame the gun more than the ammo. I was very close to picking up some M855 instead of what I purchased. Now, I wish I had.
